👀 “A new global study suggests that people everywhere, regardless of country or wealth, spend almost the same amount of time travelling each day — about 78 minutes.”

@jessebrown.bsky.social There’s probably an interesting story to be told here (all Canadian media X accounts seem to be based in the US - or at least VPN’d through there… why?)

This is one of the coolest freakin' science stories I've ever heard of! Members of the Haíɫzaqv First Nation of BC noticed some animal had been damaging their *underwater* crab traps, so they set up a camera. This is what they found! www.science.org/content/arti...
Have wild wolves learned to use tools?
Video captures a lone female pulling crab traps out of the water, but does it count as tool use?

@kevinroose.com @caseynewton.bsky.social Interesting bit on space data centres but y’all barely mentioned one of the main benefits - they are cooled by the vacuum of space, so don’t need to draw on freshwater sources on Earth.

I've just spent way too long trying to reconcile this chart from Bloomberg (first image) about Carbon Sinks (in an article by @eroston.bsky.social) with the latest GCP report (2nd image; lead author @pfriedling.bsky.social) and CT's analysis of GCP data (third image). I can't. Something's way off🤷‍♂️

Climate skeptics who have been awful loud about how Arctic Sea Ice extent levels are 'stabilizing' over the last decade sure are quiet about the Land Sink over this same time period.

Is this "green growth"?

Seeing so much misinformation out there related to solar geomagnetic storms... Seemed like a good opportunity to write about another common bit of misinformation - the myth that modern global warming is being caused by the sun (TL;DR it's NOT the sun, it's us). Link in next post...

Impossible to pick just one picture from tonight’s northern lights show, but this one stood out as it got so bright that the snow was glowing pink🤩

Motion to permanently abandon the term "oral exam" and instead say "verbal exam" when it comes to PhD comps, proposals or theses... thanks.😅

Why Bill Gates’ climate memo is being celebrated by skeptics while frustrating scientists
Gates recently called for a ‘strategic pivot’ in climate strategy. That appears to have hit a nerve.
