This is your daily reminder that John 10:10 isn’t about the devil. The “thief” Jesus mentioned in that passage was the religious leaders who weaponized scripture to judge and harm people. Strangely enough, it’s the churches doing the same today that love to quote this verse out of context.

Jesus called the Pharisees hypocrites because their worship was performative, their faith was rules-based, and their politics was driven by fear. Sounds a lot like modern evangelicals to me.

I keep thinking about a conservative pastor I know who recently posted an ice bucket challenge at their VBS captioned “things you do for kids when in ministry.” Imagine if he had the same attitude about listening instead of judging and showing all God’s children love and acceptance.

I still hear people use the word tweet in reference to X. Since we all seem to like the word tweet, but can’t stand X, let’s just use tweet as a generic word for a post on any platform. As in, this is a tweet on Bluesky.

The Republican Party has become the party of suffering, stoking fear as its fuel. The Democratic Party must respond by reclaiming its place as the party of solutions, reminding this country of the possibility of progress. That’s the way forward.
