Self-taught, award-winning landscape artist, previously represented at 19Karen Gallery. I like nature and I don't think it's a hot take that we should preserve it. Science/personal acc: @astroryan.bsky.social ryanwhite1.github.io/painting (he/him)

I am legitimately afraid of black holes so this was a tough thing to paint lol. Technically a fine painting, but I wouldn't paint something like this anymore.

#17 - Acrylic on A3 canvas paper, completed February 8, 2017.

While I was painting I recall hating my waterfalls, but in retrospect it's the clouds that I wanted to improve on the most. A good learning experience of what not to do!

#16 - Acrylic on 16x20" canvas (pre-stretched), completed February 8, 2017.

The friend that this painting was for specifically wanted to give me a challenge to paint something I hadn't yet done before. They loved the colour orange and wanted something simple, and so sand dunes it was!

#15 - Acrylic on 16x20" canvas (pre-stretched), completed February 8, 2017.

Painted this one together with a friend at the time, both doing the same scene and me showing him the ropes.

#14 - Acrylic on 16x20" canvas (pre-stretched), completed February 3, 2017.

I remember this being the first painting that I impressed myself with. I don't remember what happened to it!
Also my first time painting on canvas paper (because it was so much cheaper)

#13 - Acrylic on A3 canvas paper, completed February 2, 2017.

Painted for my friend Sam. I found the 1:2 aspect ratio awkward here, but it later became one of my favourite sizes to paint!

#12 - Acrylic on 12x24" canvas (pre-stretched), completed January 24, 2017.

I'm delving quite heavily into digital art for the first time and it's amazing to me how streamlined it makes everything. The atmosphere gradient here would have taken me *hours* with physical media, but took about 10 minutes with Clip Studio Paint. I'm in awe
A heavily work-in-progress image of a sunrise ocean painting I'm working on as viewed in the Clip Studio Paint interface. There is a large block of blue on the bottom which will *eventually* be ocean waves. The upper half of the canvas has a smooth sunrise gradient, going from reddish at the bottom, to desaturated yellows, to soft blues/greens at the top. There are blocked in clouds along the horizon.

My first time really consciously paying attention to depth. Painted for my friend Georgia.

My first ever commission! Albeit to my sister and for very few $, but still.

#10 - Acrylic on 18x24" canvas (pre-stretched), completed January 19, 2017.

If I remember correctly, I was trying to paint Aoraki (Mt Cook) here. A gift to my mum.

One of my favourites for a while. I branched out (heh) with how I approached trees, and tried *really* hard to get the reflection just right, even doing a glacier for the first time! Painted for my friend at the time, Tayla.

#8 - Acrylic on 16x20" canvas (pre-stretched), completed January 9, 2017.

P.S. sorry everyone for the really poor image quality of my earliest paintings. I didn't start getting professional scans until my ~40th painting, so they'll get better in time I promise

My first time painting aurorae, using that classic Bob Ross technique. Painted for my friend Phoenix.

#7 - Acrylic on 16x20" canvas (pre-stretched), completed in January 2017.

This was my favourite painting of mine for a long time. I forget exactly where this is, but somewhere in Canada! Painted for my very dear friend Lili.

#6 - Acrylic on 16x20" canvas (pre-stretched), completed in January 2017.

Painted for a friend. I remember feeling very adventurous branching out to red leaves - I'm not sure the climates match up between the pine and flame tree though.

#5 - Acrylic on 16x20" canvas (pre-stretched), completed in January 2017.

My fourth painting, and first time using acrylics! Painted for a friend at the time.

#4 - Acrylic on 12x16" canvas (pre-stretched), completed in December 2016.
An acrylic painting of a mountain and forest-y scene. Tall clouds and snowy mountains in the background, dense forests and a lake in the midground, and fluffy pine in the foreground.

For my third painting, an improvised beach scene. I remember being incredibly nervous to branch away from mountains! Painted as a gift for my friend Bella.

#3 - Oil on 12x16" canvas (pre-stretched), completed in December 2016.
An oil painting of a beach scene. In the background is a (poorly painted) towering cumulonimbus cloud. There are violent waves crashing onto the sand and rocks at the shore, with a small sandy hill and palm tree in the foreground.

My second ever painting, made as a Christmas present for a friend.
#2 - Oil on 12x16" canvas (pre-stretched), completed in December 2016.
An oil painting of a snowy scene. There is a large snow-covered mountain in the background, a smooth snow-dusted landscape leading into the foreground, and a couple of tall pine trees in the foreground.

For my first post, here's my first ever painting. I followed Bob Ross tutorials religiously, watching them for months before I even picked up a brush. I wouldn't be an artist without him.

#1 - Oil on 16x20" canvas (pre-stretched), completed in December 2016.
An oil painting of an imagined Alaskan/Canadian mountain scene. In the background is a towering snowy mountain, the midground a dense pine forest and a deep blue lake, and in the foreground some detailed pine trees with dense and tall grass.
