Only one person ever calls him out for uttering the phrase "I am the King". That person is his grandsire, Tywin Lannister. His uncle Tyrion often calls him out, but for different reasons. He enjoys tormenting Tyrion as well. He dares not even try that with Tywin.

This happens in front of the Sept of Baelor. After this, Sansa is treated as though she herself is a traitor, simply for being Ned's daughter. He enjoys tormenting her, often laughing as he does so. He loves to remind people quite often that he is the King since Robert's passing.

This makes him look weak, which angers him. He becomes determined not to appear weak again. He is forced to continue to show kindness to Sansa, for the sake of appearances. This ends when Ned Stark is arrested for treason. He does promise mercy for Ned to Sansa but still has him beheaded.

When he is first betrothed to Sansa Stark, he is kind to her. He loves to spoil her at first, to give her what she wants. Arya gets in the way of this and ruins everything. After he is bitten by Nymeria, he turns cold and cruel. He is shamed by Robert for the fact that Arya was able to disarm him.

Joffrey Baratheon is the son of Cersei and Jaime Lannister though he is believed to be Robert Baratheon's son. He and both his siblings are all Jaime's but thought to be Robert's. He grows up a pampered spoiled prince. He is used to getting his way.
