@climatenews.bsky.social Really interesting insights from both of you tonight, thanks for the interesting discussion. I remain rather sceptical about the connection between relatively deep undersea earthquakes on established plate boundaries with climate change, but lots to think about.

I feel privileged to have followed your podcasts for quite a while, and now we have the Bank of England, the World Bank (or somesuch), and a major investment bank rehearsing your arguments.

There are some interesting posts by @umsonst.bsky.social (thanks) but they mainly consider sea temperatures etc., rather than stuff happening at 15km depth.
I get nervous when everything everywhere all at once is 'dodgily' claimed as climate change.

There have been two of significant magnitudes recently - one in August and this most recent one. Hardly 'quite a few'.

I wouldn't disagree that an earthquake of this magnitude could destabilize ice sheets, but I'm struggling to find a connection between climate change and the occurrence of an earthquake in this region.

I think linking earthquakes in general, and this one in particular, to climate change is a bit of a stretch.

So what's the comparative cost (for domestic heating, per kWh) for natural gas versus electricity in the US?
This seems to be the killer equation in the UK - even with a mega efficient electrically powered heat pump, losing out financially by deserting gas is a given. It's political.

While the UK is depressingly low, I'm surprised by the high percentages for Italy and France. Both of those countries are renowned for generous pension payments - but then the UK also claims that much of the welfare 'bill' is accounted for by pensions. Can you link to the source for clarification?

I did table tennis and lacrosse left handed, but tennis right handed. Golf, cricket and hockey I wanted to do left handed. Writing I only ever did right handed.

We moved into a house, unoccupied for about five years, surrounded by tall trees, and the first autumn we listened to young owls leaning to hoot (no pictures unfortunately). It was delightful - tweet tweet tweet hoooh!

We had a couple of cats who 'followed ahead' when we took a stroll through some pasture land with cattle close to our house.
They knew exactly our route, and only occasionally would look over their shoulder to make sure we were following them!
