Does NAP 7 show we’ve lost our way with human factors?

A short piece I wrote for @assocanaes.bsky.social on #humanfactors - missed opportunities around debriefing, CRM and simulation, and the thorny issue of transposing aviation standards to our practice.

The food shelves in our huge #NHS tertiary hospital. Been like this for 3 days.

This is the only food outlet, since the main hospital canteen was permanently shut in favour of this @whsmithofficial.bsky.social /M&S portal.

Now’s a good time to order airway checklist cards for changeover in August.

Adult cards - 38p, paediatric - 65p - maybe the best safety intervention you can make for under £30…

Orders: [email protected]

Please RT 🙏

Wise words from Capt Neil Jeffers at #GAMC2025 - we’re obsessed with leadership in medical emergencies and don’t focus enough on followership.

NEW: GMB Union says scrapping care visas could decimate care sector.

“Scrapping this visa will be deeply damaging –potentially catastrophic for our beleaguered care system.

"The whole sector is utterly reliant on migrant workers – yet we still have more than 130,000 vacancies."

Matter of time until this type of bed design is cited in a failed intubation case report.

A handy barrier keeping you a metre from your patient’s head - the disconnect between medical product design & end use is real.

Very interesting piece. The data is eye-opening, even if it does reflect what’s noticeable day to day.

I manage a ratio of 3 or 4 cupboard / drawer openings to obtain one piece of equipment at work. More if I’m in A&E or an unfamiliar theatre.

Anyone aware of a time-motion study to produce a business case for “ergonomising” this madness?

What tools do people use for operational / performance debriefing (not psychological debrief) after emergency scenarios?

Keen to see any aide memoirs / crib sheets used to guide structured team reflection. 🙏

This “board game” initiative is such a smart way to develop “bigger picture” management of complex intensive care situations, for staff of all levels. 🧠

Nice one @hvh86.bsky.social !
Wrote a little piece for the @ficm.bsky.social Resident’s Eye Newsletter on our forays into tabletop simulation on the ICU - have a read!
