📖Remembering the Covenants in Song, 2019.
I can now put the tree up in my office.

This is a special time of year, a season with many facets of significance.

Thankful for the Advent journey and the coming Christmas season.
O come, O come, Emmanuel.🕯️🌲

The start of Advent feels weighty this year. Thankful to be able to worship and focus on the themes each week.
#Hope feels especially meaningful these days. 🕯️
Appreciate @barry.d.jones reminding us that we live in the valley between the peak of the first Advent and the Summit of his return.

When they talk up all the lottery players on the Buckeyes roster I just want to say in my snarkiest tone, "So Joel, why are they 0-4?"

Five mile walk on a gray, cool, windy day. Love the mood - feels like an Advent sort of day.

Enjoyed running the #IrvingTurkeyTrot 5k. Good start to the day, good morning I'm with friends, and a way to support Irving Schools.

Five years ago we would not have seen ourselves as Turkey Trotters but all the walking has changed us. 🦃👟🏅

There have been times in my life when this season was all about Christmas and joy.

In recent years this season has been about Advent and feeling the weight of the "not yet" as we wait.

Thankful that this season can hold both the heaviness of waiting and the joy of Christ's arrival.🕯️

For yours is the kingdom,
the power,
and the glory
forever.

Anyone who seeks their own kingdom and power for their own glory stands against God.

God's kingdom, power, and glory are not for any ruler or nation of this world.
No King but Christ. ✝️👑

Mavs are a work in progress, but I love the way this roster is packed with dudes who will fight you.
Tough - this roster is a pack of dawgs. 🐺😤

You can say you see the imago Dei in all people, but your treatment of others - esp the least of these and the other - says more about how you see people and their Creator.
Theology is not just articulated, it is lived and practiced.

The McRib still hits the spot. After all these years, McDs gets it right when it comes to the limited availability bit.

There is so much good, beauty, & wonder that God has given as gifts to all.

Instead of focusing on all the ways we are different from our neighbors, it would be a wonderful way to love our neighbors if we could share in the enjoyment of things we can all appreciate.

It's good to enjoy such gifts.

There's no greater good or higher cause that justifies turning a blind eye toward sex trafficking, rape, abuse, and pedophilia.

Accountability cannot be conditioned on who commits these crimes.
November 16, 2025 at 8:04 PM
There is no way to soften or nuance the horrific Epstein crimes as anything but sex trafficking and child rape.

These acts are evil.

Any attempt to redefine, defend, or cover over these wicked abuses is the rotten fruit of idolatry.

Enjoyed some Texas h.s. playoff football as Plano had a nice season, but couldn't match up with Coppell.
Got to see Chris march in his last game as a Plano Wildcat.

Had the privilege of taking part in a workshop on understanding & writing laments in the style of the psalms.
Noted that our laments reflect our theology. What the psalmists & prophets grieved reflect God's heart.

How does what we grieve and what do not grieve reflect our hearts? 💔

I've changed the way I relate to my kids (young Millennial & Gen Z) because the world they're entering as adults is vastly different from what me & my wife (GenX) entered.

We have to change the way we think about finances, jobs/careers, relationships, and faith in order to better care for them.

This 🧵 is gold. It is laughable, and yet it's also depressing. This is a real trial in a real federal court.🥪💥 😅😭💀
Big day at U.S. District Court in D.C. where Sean Dunn, the D.C. Sandwich Guy, is on trial for misdemeanor assault of a federal officer.

Border Patrol agent Gregory Lairmore is on the stand narrating surveillance video of the sammie toss.

'Now he’s struck me with the sandwich,' Lairmore says.

We grew up poor. I don't know how we would've managed without government assistance.

My parents both worked hard but struggled to make ends meet without help.

Please see the shared humanity & imago Dei in people needing assistance.

Don't let your hearts be hardened toward your neighbors.💛

The sin of the sluggard is seeking prosperity by another's labor.
He mocks God by refusing to eat by the sweat of his brow.

Scripture also speaks of the poor in the land. Their poverty is not a moral failure or a sin.

God's care for the poor is wisely not linked to morality tests.📜💛

Please check with local food banks and ask how you can best help. Donations are always helpful, but specific items are in demand and cash donations always help.⛑️

Saddened at the devastation caused by hurricane Melissa.
The death toll, the destruction of livelihoods and communities is crushing. Exhausted at the thought of relief work and rebuilding.
Lord, be near, esp through your people. Stir up in us compassion and empathy. Keep our hearts soft.
