Recently had the privilege of joining the Table Podcast to discuss grief and how many Christians struggle with an underdeveloped understanding of lament.

It felt like a timely conversation.💔🎙️🎧

Good piece on AI. I appreciate this perspective and the way Bernard addresses things from the very spaces where AI is developed. #goodread #AI

I believe that AI’s impact and future pathways are overstated because human nature is ignored in such statements.

Been saying this for a long time.
“Hard to ignore the fact that when everyone got to pay players, it leveled the playing field immediately. They can deny all they want, but that’s a fact.”

The SEC’s dismal bowl record this season points to a fundamental truth: money matters
The SEC is 4-9 in bowl games this season. Does that point to an even playing field?

Been a while since I've posted #scenesfromawalk. Walked new trails today - the Marni Kaner and the Preston Ridge trails in Richardson.

Not sure why we've never walked here, but nice to keep the walks going into the new year.
4+ miles, loved the cloud cover. 🌥️

Have to brag a bit. Hanna makes some of the most amazing 떡국 tteokguk (rice cake soup) for our traditional New Year's meal.
Soooo good.🇰🇷🍲🍙

Happy New Year, everyone! 🎇🥂

2024 was hard. I remember a year ago hoping 2025 would be better and then living through a hard 2025.

I don't know what 2026 will bring but I trust and hope.

Even if 2026 brings worse, God is with us.
Jesus is faithful and true.

Happy New Year to all. 🥂🎆🎇

The modern Eva church's tendency to see the OT as opposed to the Gospel, at worst, and as largely irrelevant, at best, is a reason the church's engagement in the work of justice & human flourishing has suffered.
Jesus said the law is good and that he came to fulfill it.
So should we.

Merry Christmas tide! There are 12 days leading up to Epiphany (Jan 6) so feel free to keep celebrating Jesus' birth and his first Advent.
It's okay to keep the tree & lights up, sing seasonal songs, and celebrate hope.
Peace on earth, goodwill to all.🎄

Grading done for my OT students. Once again, relieved and pleased to see how well the students did and to see students who overcame some challenges to finish well.
Professor sympathy pains are real, lol. 📜📚🖊️

Merry Christmas to all!
Grateful for the one born our wondrous Advocate, mighty God, Father for all time, and Prince of peace.

Peace on earth and goodwill toward all people. 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🎄👑

It may not be accurate to have the magi at the nativity (mixing Luke 2 & Matt 2).

But many Christians don't observe Epiphany so this traditional inclusion of the star, the magi, & their gifts allow for the Epiphany story to be remembered - Jesus, a light for ALL nations who came for all people.🌠🎄👑

Looking forward to speaking on Epiphany, Matt 2, the Magi, & the significance of this special observance.

Feels timely to celebrate Jesus' first appearance (epiphaneia) to the gentiles.

Grateful for a shepherd-king who is good, just, and a light for all nations.🕯️👑✝️🌠

The current idols that are harming the church and those in ministry:
performance, productivity, and platform.
(Sorry for the three Ps, I guess pastor brain is a thing.)
These idols undermine and mute the liberating ministry of the Spirit, the love of Christ, the grace of God. 🕊️✝️
December 20, 2025 at 7:35 PM
As I look at the ministry landscape and see burnout, struggles, hurt, and failures, I am convinced of this:

We may say the right things about the Spirit and what the Spirit does, but we don't actually live and practice as if our pneumatology is true.💔

"Silent Day" - the lesser known carol about the campus on the Friday before Christmas break. 😁

Merry Christmas, happy holidays, students, teachers, and staff. Enjoy your break, get some rest. 🎄

Grading papers can be a chore, but it is fulfilling to read good work and see the growth of students.
I love seeing students grasping important concepts/issues in the field of OT studies. 📚🖊️📓

"How has Jacob rebelled, you ask?
Samaria epitomizes their rebellion!
Where are Judah’s pagan worship centers, you ask?
They are right in Jerusalem!" ~Mic 1:5 (NET)

Where was the center of rebellion & idolatry, it was in the heart of the nation.

A word for today.📜

A lament: We're called to be light, to be salt, & to do the kind of good works that cause our *neighbors* to praise our Heavenly Father.

Sadly there's a lot of the opposite, actually.

Many of our neighbors are actually hurt, marginalized, & pushed away from God by what Xians do. 💔

Last OT class of the semester and I had a great time with this group of students.
Loved discussing the Torah & OT theology with these students. Thankful to be able to teach OT courses here.📜📚

Late night on campus - peaceful and fulfilling.🕯️🌲

Isaiah prophesied about Emmanuel - the With-us God.
Encouraged as we reflected on his righteousness, justice, and a day when nations would stream to his glorious city.
There we will no be a need for swords or training for war. We long.
O come, o come, Emmanuel. 🕯️🕯️🌲

Enjoyed celebrating with students, faculty, and staff. A light shines in the darkness. 🌲🕯️

One of the reasons I love Christmas decorations is the reminder that light shines in the darkness.
The darkness is real, but a light has dawned. 🕯️🌲
