👋 I’m Sarah. I’m a post doc at The Lyell Centre at @heriotwattuni.bsky.social in Edinburgh, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 where I work on coccolithophore physiology in the Icelandic Basin as part of the BioCarbon CHALKY project led by Prof Alex Poulton.

Billions of microscopic artists create masterpieces that shape our #climate, feed #marine life, and record planetary history in their calcium armour.

Who are they? ⌛🌊

Microscopic, yet seen from space. Invisible, yet astronauts watch them glow.

Billions of tiny artists shape climate, feed the seas, and write history in calcium armor.

Meet them in 2 days.

While you breathe, they work. While you sleep, they build. While you read this, they're protecting our climate system.

Who are they? 🌊🔬

They are architects of the sea, engineers of the air—capturing carbon, atom by atom.

While you breathe, they build. While you sleep, they safeguard our climate.

Hi, could I be added as a contributor please!
sarahcryer.bsky.social
This mornings was definitely all about #ocean #iron - @cmarkmoore.bsky.social finished off the session highlighting findings from Jo Ainsworth’s PhD work as part of #CUSTARD and the #iron and #carbon cycles
sarahcryer.bsky.social
This was then upped by Tess Ashen @plymouthmarine.bsky.social who had a great schematic
sarahcryer.bsky.social
I particularly enjoyed this slide as a non #iron #biogeochemist - saving as a cheat sheet for later
@altagliabue.bsky.social
sarahcryer.bsky.social
This morning we have moved away from yesterdays unofficial theme of #coccolithophores to nutrients with talks by Robyn Tuerena
@samsocean.bsky.social and the #C-streams project, Anna Belcher @ukceh.bsky.social and @biopole.bsky.social project and a keynote by @altagliabue.bsky.social on #iron

Starting this morning session - in I think the hardest slot of the two days (morning after conference dinner) was Marta Santos Garcia sharing her #PhD work on #Nitrogen #Fixation changes in the #Arctic #Ocean

#AMBIO afternoon sessions starting with a super interesting key note from @drplanktonpoo.bsky.social
Never thought I would hear diarrhoea mentioned in an #ocean #biogeochemist conference!
sarahcryer.bsky.social
As a non modeller I enjoyed @nanophyto.bsky.social explanation of ensemble based models
sarahcryer.bsky.social
This morning has focused strongly on #ocean #biogeochemistry #models
with talks by @miriamseif.bsky.social, Aaron Naidoo-Bagwell and Joost de Vries

Alex leaves us with some things to think about
- we need a carbonate pump schematic
- we need to get out of our silos
- we know what we know but what about our unknown unknowns

#AMBIO 🌊
sarahcryer.bsky.social
The joint @challengersoc.bsky.social #AMBIO & @mastscot.bsky.social #biogeochemistry forum meeting has kicked off in #Edinburgh
Starting us off is Prof Alex Poulton’s keynote on the biological carbonate pump.
Looking forward to two days of all things #marine #biogeochemistry 🌊

First time back at Kings Building since undergrad, had to of course get a falafel wrap, which fuelled many a study session and still reminisced about amongst KB friends. Although the wrap stations had quite a makeover since then 🧆
