From Earth’s view, the Moon “occulted” - passed in front of - Mars last night (Jan 13)… these are a tad fuzzy thanks to thin clouds over #Albuquerque, but the tiny red dot is definitely there! (It’s at bottom left in 1st pic, top right in 2nd) #astronomy #occultation

The Horsehead Nebula (with the Flame Nebula below and to the left) is ~1,375 light years away from earth, in Orion.

For those curious: I used sulfur, hydrogen, & oxygen (SHO) filters with a monochrome astronomy camera to acquire this image.
