🕯️Welcome! My name is Sarah René Kraft, a fantasy-surrealist artist & storyteller from California, using my mytho-spiritual “ribbon pieces”—drawn using only red and blue double-ended pencils—to weave both archetypal symbolism and mental health lessons I’ve learned on my own “underworld” journey.
Spending my afternoon break from working at home by harvesting rose thorns.

As you do.
DECOY NEST, drawn for a gallery exhibit while recovering from an emergency appendectomy I had during a random full moon, is about my conflicting relationships with acute social anxiety and masking.

Been talking a lot lately about autumn & the art of letting go, but a conversation with my partner got me thinking about trying to control outcomes in every aspect of desire, even our personal goals.

OUT OF MISERY is about what happens when we hang on too tightly.
💀🦂 Thanatos as the #DeathCard for the #LemniscusTarot lovingly welcomes you to Scorpio season! Ascending as a beacon for rebirth, he reminds you that as you shed your summer skin, shed with intention.
Gosh. Shimmery canvas prints in antique frames might be my new obsession
Working on getting back to my Underworld mythology/mental health tarot deck after years of burnout, starting with The Tower.

Got the writing and mock-up done, taped off the canvas, and now I’m blocking in the composition.
With poppies for deep sleep and lily of the valley signaling a “return to happiness,”UNRAVELING is about both the agony and ecstasy of opening up and becoming vulnerable so long after being hurt.

Realized recently my healing has not been about donning armor, but in reclaiming my softness.
Thank you to all who popped in for our very first open house at #ArthouseStudio13!

Proud of us, @jeremyrathbone.bsky.social, my love.❤️ We worked SO hard these past couple weeks, you especially. And I can’t believe what we got done. A moscato toast well earned.🥂🍾
Every time I’ve made a new tarot card, my life and the world around me have embodied the energy of the card.

Been avoiding this one a long while now, but it’s time.

Eris calls. #TheTower
So am I. It’s literally one of my favorite shows. So many layers of symbolism and detail!

Passing a cemetery? Superstition states you should hold your breath in order to avoid the risk of breathing in the soul of someone recently departed. #FolkloreThursday
Having to get mighty creative in order to find a way to hang art on this protected brick wall in this historic building. The wall @jeremyrathbone.bsky.social built for past shows and this arch I found on Marketplace look like they were made for each other! Added shelves & attaching the arch.
If you see this, QRT with a gif of your first anime.

Mine was Grimm’s Fairytale Classics on Nickelodeon!
I bet a laurel and hyacinth bouquet would be quite lovely and sad. In floriography: Artistic victory through grief.💐
Corvus and Smintheus

Corvus is where we get the genus for crows and was a familiar to Apollo. Smintheus became synonymous with “mouse” due to the epithet given to Apollo. And an art studio seems like a great place to appeal to the God of Art! ☀️
Introducing the new “Apollonian” mascots of @sarahrenekraft.bsky.social & @jeremyrathbone.bsky.social’s Studio 13 at ARTHOUSE on R —

✨🕯️Corvus & Smintheus 🕯️✨
A part of me wonders if Apollo Smintheus is perhaps the origin of the Pied Piper as an archetype, that of the mysterious musician that can control the mice and punishes the town if dues go unpaid.
As the Willard of his time, Apollo’s role in sending or staving off plagues via rodentia seems to me connected to his fathering of Asclepius, God of Medicine. Farmers in particular took extra care to honor the god so as not to incur his wrath in the form of diseases or crop-destroying mice.
Because mice had a proclivity for discovering the best wild and farmed grain and food stores and leapt from sinking boats prior to sinking, they were associated with rituals of prophecy and thus sacred to Apollo.
I was picking out a doorstop for the new studio and saw this mouse figurine. And because my decor all has intention, I looked up and learned that Apollo, Greek God of music, poetry, art, prophecy, and divination was knows as “Lord of Mice” in relation to his epithet Apollo Smintheus.
I hear “war torn Portland” and I keep imagining Portlanders taking to the streets, knitting needles in hand, boots to the ground, filling the roadways with rainbows of crocheted blockades, like an army of coffee-drinking orb weaver spiders.
