TB is the leading cause of disease of people living with HIV. TB can only be be beaten through the development of new vaccines to prevent TB infection and disease, quicker diagnostic tools and shorter, more effective drugs to cure. @stoptb.bsky.social; @cidri-africa.bsky.social; @who.int;

@usatoday.com reports that an estimated 11,000 additional TB patients have died after USAID funding freeze. If this continues, thousands more will likely die or lose a loved one, all from one shortsighted action.

Bit of good news. NIH has lifted hold on payments for existing research grants to South Africa, in HIV & other infectious diseases. Although no new awards can be made, existing subawards with clinical research can continue under the new “supplement” plan. www.science.org/content/arti...

What sad is that there is a safe, efficacious vaccine which is administered in drop form and which prevents measles. Two doses of a combined vaccine called Measles, Mump and Rubella (MMR) provides the best protection against measles..
The United States has recorded its highest annual measles cases in 33 years. The milestone marks a public health reversal in defeating a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable disease as the anti-vaccine movement gains strength.

Johns Hopkins University data reflects the public health reversal in defeating the vaccine-preventable disease since measles was officially eliminated from the U.S. in 2000.
