Trump just stripped SpaceX of a government contract and handed it to Jeff Bezos. Musk’s response? Rage-tweeting at Trump officials, including the immortal question “why are you gay”—the rhetorical sophistication we’ve come to expect from the richest man-child on the planet having a public meltdown because Daddy won’t give him what he wants.

Will AI seem as valuable when/if all those costs are explicit? Will it still be transformational? That is all to be determined. But, like supersonic passenger jets, just because something is possible doesn't necessarily mean that it is valued.

Part of the issue is that to most of us, AI seems "free" right now. Those who are offering it to you are eating billions of $$ in costs to rush it to market, not to mention the externalities of higher energy costs, environmental costs, and dubious use of copyrighted materials/intellectual property.

See, for example, commercial supersonic jet travel. Useful? Yes. So why is it dead now?

So far, it appears the only source so far is Trump blabbering this himself. This is following the mid-August report (published in NYT) of a $500MM deal, which turned out to be false. Let's see what Harvard has to say before we consider this true.
