The 25th anniversary of The Phoenix Film Festival honored the 25th anniversary of Platoon. Way to go, PFF! And look who stopped by our table? Oliver Stone! He thought Quincy looked like Betty Boop, haha, and he took a minute to chat with us! One more screening of SAVERIO at PFF 4/6 @ 11:35am!
BTS - our stars, Quincy Cho and Roberto Medina, were part of a panel discussing self-taping auditions - they rocked it of course! After our first screening of SAVERIO, I was part of a Q&A for the Live Action Shorts Block A!
MONDAY Q&A W/@ellenancui cont.: Sometimes it’s an existing piece of IP. But mostly, I’d say, it rests on a particular character flaw that gnaws at me - either my own or something I’ve observed, and that lights a fire. #womeninfilm #indiefilmmaking #femaledirectors #parityonset
MONDAY Q&A W/ @ellenancui: Where do you look for inspiration when trying to come up with a new project?
My problem is I have too many ideas all the time and it’s hard for me to settle down on the one thing I should be writing. Often I get ideas from other people’s lived experiences that impact me.

My friend Eric Mendelsohn, a professor at Columbia University’s film program, kept reminding me about the things an audience doesn’t care about or need to see in order to get from A to B. I liked being able to trust in the audience’s intelligence. #womeninfilm #indiefilmmaking #femaledirectors
MONDAY Q&A W/ @ellenancui: What do you like about working in the short film space?
I loved the challenges around being as economical as possible w/o sacrificing story or character. #womeninfilm #indiefilmmaking #femaledirectors #parityonset

DIRECTOR Q&A CONTINUED:
...so I play her a lot. A few weeks ago I was doing a writing sprint afternoon with a friend and he put on jazz, which surprised me, but it was great for productivity. I just love working alongside a fellow writer – it’s comforting and motivating at the same time.
DIRECTOR Q&A W/ @ellenancui: Do you have a writing playlist? If so, is it a general playlist or does it differ by project?
It definitely changes from project to project. I also love to cook, so sometimes I let the Food Channel play on my iPad next to me. But lately I’ve been obsessed with Remi Wolf

MONDAY Q&A 2:

I told the crew on the first day of shooting, “You all came here today with expectations of how this is going to go. Toss those out and be open to whatever the “-uck”, ‘cause what you least expect to happen will definitely happen. And have fun! #womeninfilm #indiefilmmaking
