I strongly urge the board to reconsider the pressure it is putting to digital storefronts in regards to Not Safe For Work (NSFW) content.

Recently the digital storefronts of Steam and Itch.io have announced that they have had to put certain restrictions on NSFW content due to pressure being applied by the payment processors Visa/Mastercard. This has resulted in NSFW works including games, videos, and books being taken down for being associated with adult content with some creators on Itch.io being removed from the platform entirely without prior notice.

This is in no uncertain terms censorship. It should not be the decision of a payment processor what the average person is and is not allowed to purchase and what is/is not determined to be obscene. Even if somebody believes that this content does not deserve to be for purchase on the internet, determining if something is "appropriate" is a subjective measure that can lead to mass censorship that can primarily target minorities such as the LGBTQ+ like with what was seen during last night's Itch.io NSFW content shadowbanning.

Once again, I urge Visa to reconsider its decision to apply pressure to these platforms to remove NSFW content. This is an abuse of the power dynamic that payment processors hold over storefronts, it should not be up to companies like Visa and Mastercard to determine what is and is not appropriate for a business to sell.
