But minister, 20 Sunshine Coast spaces are closing

BC can’t keep existing spaces

We need more than platitudes. We need a provincial wage grid

Big news for #ChildCareBC today 🚨

In #Creston parents will soon have 110 more child care spaces to count on — giving them breathing room and kids a safe place to grow. 🍼 👶 (1/3) @brittnyanderson.bsky.social

What has the YMCA and government tried to stop childcare closures?

Nothing.
scoast4childcare.bsky.social
A more prosperous BC requires child care so families can
work

But right now women and parents CAN’T WORK

More press releases won’t distract from the failure to prevent closures by paying educators a fair wage & increasing staffing levels

More childcare spaces announced, but government can’t even keep existing ones open

Spaces closing on the Sunshine Coast were barely open one year

Great news if they can be staffed

Educators are underpaid and can't afford housing

What about the Sunshine Coast child care programs that are closing indefinitely?

Will the provincial government commit dollars to keep these spaces open?

Incredible news for #Merritt

More child care spaces means more families thriving 👏 👏

🎉 Family Place in #Merritt is now open!

With 76 new child care spaces, this family-oriented centre gives kids the best chance to thrive and creates a welcoming space where families feel seen, supported, & included. 💛

Congratulations 👏

What we're hearing constantly from government and public bodies is that everyone supports child care, but no one will be courageous and step up to keep these programs open

No childcare, no workforce!

The YMCA closures of its infant and toddler care programs at the West Sechelt and Gibsons locations cut 16 spots from a region already strapped for child care.

Some parents say the closure has upended their lives and at least a dozen won’t be able to head back to work. #bclab #bcpoli

On Sep 17 we met with provincial, school district & local government officials to discuss an immediate action plan to prevent childcare closures, including recruitment/retention incentives

Unfortunately, no immediate commitments were made

Families are frustrated & will continue advocating

Gibsons mayor, local parents concerned about upcoming YMCA program closures

“Parents are left scrambling for care with no plausible option in the near future. The result of this will be a major restriction on services that support our local economy.”
