The look out from our balcony the other night. What the Quarter would have looked like 100+ yrs ago.
Gratte-ciels perdus dans la brume. Un regard dans le passé.

Skyscrapers covered by the fog. A look back in time.

Kings & Queens (& Joan of Arc). Last night, our cofounder Scott Tilton was crowned King of the Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc. Each year, Twelfth Night (January 6) marks the beginning of Mardi Gras season and the Krewe of Jeanne d’Arc opens the season in style with a sumptuous parade in the Vieux Carré.

We had the honor to conduct research at the Library of Congress for our Musique(s) project. With the support of the American Folklife Center, we went through numerous archives, including amazing recordings conducted by John Lomax in the 1930s. See y’all this spring for the release of Musique(s).

My husband is from Auvergne. And I think he feels seen. Bleu d’Auvergne it is cher.

Fascinating FQ history fact I learned. There were plans to rebuild the French Opera after it burnt (1st photo). First one, a fraudster ran away with the money (classic). An idea floated in the 1960s was to convert the court building on Royal into an opera (2nd photo). Sad we lost such a landmark.

Never tire of mornings in the French Quarter with a cup of coffee so strong it could start a car. The neighborhood is so calm, clean, and charming.

Love running through New Orleans neighborhoods when it’s cold (or our definition of it) after Thanksgiving. Can smell a roux coming out of houses on almost every corner 👨‍🍳

Great read. New Orleans is too often viewed as the ‘other’ in America, making it easy to act like it doesn’t have agency. Climate change is here - but good leadership can adapt our city to water, slow coastal erosion, and implement our water strategy.

Opinion | New Orleans’ Striking Advantage in the Age of Climate Change
Unlike the other major cities that appear on lists of unsafe places, New Orleans has a striking competitive advantage.
