Are there any other good examples? I was going to include The Mighty B and Sanjay and Craig for being the “most 90’s Nick” of all the Nicktoons of the 21st but they’re really original IPs than anything.

What’s worse is that I’m already seeing odd criticism of the show lately from people who either grew out of the show or just weren’t crazy about it to begin with. It’s kind of making me feel bad about really loving the show.

While I’m excited for the third season of Smiling Freinds, I’m worried that it might be the point where it’ll end up like a certain BTTF parody show where people start making fun of it for being popular, it’s fandom will be labeled “toxic”, and it just won’t be cool anymore.

I say this as somebody who loves animation - don't just watch animated shows. Having a wide palate of media stops your influences from becoming too inbred. Having a hobby that doesn't involve looking at a screen helps too.

I mean this in the most earnest way possible. If your points of reference for storytelling all come from cartoons I BEG you to read more books. There’s so much more variety out there, so much that hasn’t been distilled through 80 different hands & a single corporation’s S+P department.
