Mad beats about the latest TV series and movies.

Hooboy. Ladies, stay off the drugs.
Funny (it’s Steve Coogan after all) and uplifting story about everyone’s favorite decade, with an important reminder in our own dark times about speaking truth to power.

Had no idea David Oyelowo was so funny. This TV series has a lot of the endearing quirkiness of Lodge 49.

Dark, disturbing, and about 20 minutes too long, but otherwise a razor-sharp satire of Elon and his dystopian band of tech-bro dweebs.

Fifty Shades of Blah

Maybe you have to be a Nicole Kidman fan (I haven’t liked her in a role since 1995’s To Die For), but this movie’s kind of a snooze.

Tom Hardy smashes every scene in this addictive drama. Incredible ensemble cast, it’s kind of a new Sopranos.

Fun, smart, thought-provoking, this brand-new Ryan Coogler film is the next Get Out. I see an Oscar in somebody’s future.

Zahn McClarnon is the best actor on TV today, and Dark Winds is a great series to showcase his myriad talents.

Great series on Apple, with Wagner Moura of “Narcos” fame and the showstopping Brian Tyree Henry from “Atlanta” (aka Paper Boi).

A poem of a film. Really beautiful—especially for a story about a toilet cleaner.

He was notoriously hard to work with, but Val Kilmer managed to create some of the most iconic characters in movie history. Two of my favorites were Doc Holliday and Jim Morrison.
Val Kilmer Brought a Wonderfully Weird Sensibility to Every Role
Even his choice of parts could be eccentric. In the end, he’s best thought of as a character actor trapped in a leading man’s body.

Riveting and intense, this four-episode Netflix series examines that confounding and sometimes terrifying alien species: the teenager.

Scene-stealer DB Woodside helps make most of season 1 pretty compelling, but without him (and the Secret Service backstory), season 2 is largely a snooze. S2 subtitle: The Night Ambien?

FOLLOW-UP
Unless it’s a film about D-Day or the life of Gandhi, directors have no business making movies that are three hours long—and this one was 3:35. Some good content and performances, but this film is The Brutalest Length.

Halfway through this 3:35 movie. Will comment once I’ve finished it. Maybe by Monday?

#Anora has poignant moments to be sure, but it will surprise you with how funny it is. Best pic? No, but a worthy film you should check out.
