He is- plays an alcoholic detective and is the nominal star although the film splits fine between two protaganists. I thought it was great (letterboxd isn't so kind) but I wouldn't go in expecting a masterpiece. Plays a lot like a more violent TV movie. Also has Craig Watson from Body Double.

Watched two Bill Crain movies. Mostly due to @elrickane.bsky.social on @purecinemapod.bsky.social. Mirage (Bill Crain, 1990) and Midnight Fear (Bill Crain, 1991). Both are absolute bangers with endings you don't see coming. Btw. You can watch Mirage on a YouTube rip. But Midnight Fear is on Prime.

Second time. I was right. Haven't felt like this about a film since Sinners (and RRR). Film of the year without a shadow of doubt.

Elementary season 1-7.5. best network show of all time. And a perfect ending. Beat the UK Prime cutoff by hours. And as somebody who read every Sherlock Holmes story as a child, the best adaptation ever. You named a be after me...

One Battle After Another (P.T. Anderson, 2025). This is the film Leo should get an Oscar for. This is going to sweep if there's any justice in the universe. It's also a masterpiece, which helps.

Elementary- up to season 4, episode 2. It's hit my top 10 shows of all time. It's like a TV show was purposely designed for me. Also, it knows how to do Stan Lee's illusion of change perfectly. Brilliant writing. I will come back with a final review after I'm finished.

If you want to make a physical copy of your book available, let me know.l (and I will do the work to make it happen). I'm not a publisher so you're not going to get rich. Just someone who did this with Amazon print on demand and also made no money. And I want to read your book on paper.

I'm starting to think that while he may have come to hate Holmes, that was the man he aspired to be and his failure in this regard lead to this self same hatred.

Agreed. I read all of the short stories in my teens as my dad had an old compilation (early 1900s). It was years later that I read the novel length Holmes (they're not novels). Study in Scarlet was when I realised that he was using the stories as a vehicle to convey his opinions.

Had a read. And I agree.

I've not read this. But having read the novels, you are correct. There's only one that could be considered good (Baskervilles although it's really a Watson story). The worst obviously is The Study in Scarlet with its 100 page 'why I hate the Mormons tract'.

Elementary season 1 (various, 2012). Ignored this because I thought it would be a poor copy of the BBC show. It's better. Its true mishap is that we'd forgotten that mainstream American networks could still do an X-Files style version of Sherlock Holmes in the peak TV era. An undiscovered gem.

It's what happens when a tired man doesn't edit his posts although feel free to theorise. It's been a long day.

The reason that Elementary isn't considered one of the best shows of all time is because it's network show. And I'm still in season 1. How every cat 6 never didn't get an Emmy, I will never understand.

Bought this on VHS as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend when I was 18. We've been together and then married since then. Still love it.

Denis Beauvais was amazing- trouble is, the reprint (post Alien 3) ruins the story- the best Alien sequel we never saw.
