Some wooden cups I made last year. Still in the process of getting the new house setup, so it's been a while since I've done anything on the lathe. Sigh... soon.
I stopped watching the NFL 12+ yrs ago, but the Super Bowl has always bled over into my awareness just because of coworkers discussing it the day after. But the amount of bleed over has dropped dramatically. Used to know everything that happened. Now I basically only know that it happened.

We have 70,000 people held in ICE prison camps. That is quickly approaching the 120,000 Japanese-Americans held in shameful camps during WW2. This has to be stopped. Every state should fight these camps.

Jonathan Bailey has a point when he says that anyone who uses AI without disclosing it is a plagiarist. www.plagiarismtoday.com/2026/02/03/i...
If You Don’t Disclose AI, You’re a Plagiarist
Plagiarism is the act of taking credit for the creativity or work of another. That includes taking credit for the work of generative AI.

I remember in art history class, the example of Manet's "Olympia." It was controversial not because she was nude (there were plenty of nude paintings from other artists), it was in part because her gaze extended to the viewer.
When you get into the sort of genre min-maxing that is happening in the pop fiction industry, it starts to look a lot like pornography, the way it's all hyper-specialized to reach people who are mass-consuming specific fixations.
fuck this lady, fuck the nyt reporter, fuck all of this. fuck amazon for introducing the KU page read model that makes this possible, fuck our tech overlords.

As most do, my children use the phrase, "that's not fair" to mean, "I don't like that." After many attempts to correct, I've decided to adopt their usage.

It's not fair we have to listen to bad music. It's not fair they yell all the time. It's not fair they won't go to bed when we tell them to.

Me: "That's yet to be proven."

For decades the Right has daydreamed about saving their country from monsters, they finally got the chance and it turns out they love the monsters. The monsters are even monstrous in the exact ways they fantasized about! You never have to listen to these guys about anything again

My grandmother died. She was 85. Her husband (not my grandfather) had died just a month prior. She was in the hospital when he died. She was in the hospital because she had over exerted herself running back and forth between home and hospice for him.

When the Austrians invented pistachio-paste-filled-chocolate in 1880, they called it "Mozartkugeln", or "Mozart's Balls." I like to imagine Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart—who was well-known for having a fart fetish—as a spokesman, giggling and delivering the tag line, "you're going to love my balls!"
Dubai Chocolate is just Mozartkugeln made in a country that still practices chattel enslavement of living, breathing people. So you can have the disgusting combination of pistachio and chocolate with a heaping side of guilt to boot.

Funerals are rough. Getting stranded in Florida after a funeral because 80% of the country is shut down from a winter storm is... a whole new level.

You know those coworkers you have who are completely useless, yet somehow they haven't been fired? For years, they seem to know how to say things just the right way so their barely-paying-attention-boss never catches on that they aren't providing any value?

That's AI.

My group wanted some counters to keep track of support characters used in Star Trek Adventures. IDK what is happening with the paint, but it's not sticking to itself, which is weird.
