Love talking Seattle sports.
@jewelsnbinoculars.bsky.social Davey Johnson was the best manager the Mets ever had. My column: lesliemonteiro.substack.com/p/davey-john...

I wrote an ode on him that is worth your time reading.
Davey Johnson was right guy for '86 Mets
Davey Johnson found a way to get 25 guys with crazy personalities to play together and make right decisions in leading the Mets to a World Series championship in 1986.

@caitykaboom.bsky.social The Rangers won BTW! How long until they are in first place!

@chrisbanks3.bsky.social When do we panic about the Mariners?

Watching the last two games, I can't help but think the Mariners have themselves a problem. I am wondering if the Mariners are battling the shadow of their history of their failures here. They are either pressing or wilting. We played two games in September, but this sure seems like a foreshadowing.

Cal Raleigh is pressing. There's no doubt about it. It showed last night in the seventh inning when he struck out to end the threat and in the ninth inning when he flied out to end the game. From what I see, he's so bent on hitting the ball out of the park. He needs to just get base hits.

Struggle for the Mariners on the road is real: The team is 32-39 away from TMobile Park. They haven't won a series on the road since the Detroit series before the All-Star break. The M's are 10-19 against AL East teams. They are 7-15 on the road since post-break. Maybe it's time to wear the greys.

Angie Mentink has done fine this year with the Mariners games. But one thing she can improve on is letting the game breathe rather than feeling the need to speak something a minute. She can get better with reps. I hope she's back next year. She is a likeable person. She can be a mensch, too.

Nice to see Lou Piniella at the Mariners/Rays game last night rooting the Mariners on. Also, great job by Root Sports showing his reaction of Lou doing the handwave when Dan Wilson got tossed last night.

I know the 49ers are a hated team in Seattle, but for me, I hate the Rams a lot more than the 49ers. I hate anything associated with Los Angeles. Their fans are so smug from that smog in LA. The teams are arrogant as hell. Who can ever root for Stan Kroneke?
September 3, 2025 at 10:24 PM
Here's why I pick the Seahawks to win the NFC West: The 49ers did not get better. The Rams are an old team. The Cardinals are winning nothing with Kyler Murray at quarterback.
September 3, 2025 at 10:21 PM
I am sure the 49ers signed Marquez Valdez-Scantling, who the Seahawks released that the 49ers are playing on Sunday, to be an integral part of the team. BTW, why would the Seahawks release him? He can be productive for the Hawks.

Sooner or later, the NFL Red Zone was going to have commercials. You can't produce a show without one. Besides, how can anyone watch Red Zone when his or her favorite team is playing at the same time? I never watched the Red Zone since I am so focused on a particular game.

What's with the 49ers invasion taking place at Tom's Watch Bar at Seattle on Saturday? Would someone explain that to me? Are there plenty of 49ers fans living in Seattle? Does their fanbase travel a lot?

The Mariners haven't won a road series since a weekend series at Detroit to start the All-Star break. They have lost 14 of their 20 road games. I know their splits from home and road are drastic, but if the Mariners can't win some road games, they will have a hard time making the playoffs.
September 2, 2025 at 10:38 PM
If Luis Castillo doesn't figure it out, the Mariners are not making the playoffs. He has been awful for 4 starts. It's disappointing since he's a vet that should be leading the way. For him to implode last night in the 2nd inning raises concerns. He has a 10.06 ERA lately with hitters hitting .390
September 2, 2025 at 10:31 PM
You get the feeling this will come down to the final weekend of the season for the Mariners? They play the Dodgers, but fortunately for them, the Dodgers are likely resting their players by then, but that guarantees nothing just like being at home guarantees nothing.
September 2, 2025 at 10:26 PM
Right now, I would say the MVP race is a dead-heat race. Cal Raleigh needs to step up on the road for him to make a case to win the AL MVP. He has not played well on the road just like his Mariners teammates lately.
September 2, 2025 at 10:25 PM
With the Mariners calling up highly touted prospect Harry Ford as part of the September callups, Mitch Garver's playing time has to go down. I want to see what Harry can do. It's not a good time to put an unproven player in this spot, but Mitch has had months to show what he can do with no results.

This year has gone fast. Can you believe we are in September? The start of the football season starts Thursday.
September 2, 2025 at 10:17 PM
I am not surprised Seahawks kept their rookies that did not make the 53-man roster. Why give up on them when they have potential? They can develop in a practice squad at their own pace.

I have to admit I have not watched the WNBA since Caitlin got hurt. I just got no interest outside of Caitlin. If it makes me a horrible fan, so be it.

The Storm are going to battle it out for the final game of the season for a playoff spot, aren't they?
