If you found me, that’s a shame. I’m lost in my own mind 24/7. 24. She/her. Disaster bi definitely applies.

Wore a moon-honoring crystal to the store, and came back with a cartful of sweets…good oops I guess 😅
Be glad I insult you in my journal so I don’t say hurtful things to your face
Oh wait! One more thing. In season three, the pagans that are all based on Greek mythology are “evil,” but then the coven becomes the order of Hecate…a goddess from Greek mythology also…? Again, maybe it’s in the comics, it just doesn’t make sense lore/myth wise but maybe that also wasn’t the point
That’s all for now. Halfway through season four and wow I forgot how batshit insane it was for no apparent reason
-one more positive mostly based on current personal connection. But the last season where Sabrina feels really sad at her aunt’s wedding, because she feels alone and like everyone can find love and connection but her? I’ll give the writers that one, I actually felt something there
-there’s *almost* a theme. Almost! With Sabrina constantly feeling torn between two worlds (mortal vs witch, and then witch vs morningstar), and how she can never fully be herself, or she’s always sacrificing part of herself in the process of choosing. If only it were explored/examined better
-seasons three and four just seem to be based on what the writers developed an interest in. Three for Greek mythology. Four for eldritch lore. Maybe that’s also how it is in the comics but idk. Feels disconnected as a series still
-One positive. In season three when the coven loses all of their magic, it’s nice that they included more “realistic” methods of witchcraft. Moon-bathing, a cord cutting ritual with candles, etc. Not as flashy, but fun. Shows a modicum of research
(Sure it could be a critique on the extreme fragility of masculinity, but the show’s not very good at that)
-starting in season three, why are they all singing? Is this a musical show now, why?
-don’t know why it took me so long to realize, but father Blackwood is so pathetic. Why are you beefing with a 16 year old girl?? Why is she your biggest threat? Grow up
Having more thoughts as I’ve continued watching this show against my better judgement…
Rewatching the chilling adventures of Sabrina as part of my fall watch list, and while I love it for the vibes and the style inspiration, what truly irritates me is the laziness of the writing
I’ll still rewatch my fave episodes. But it’s one of those shows where the sheer ridiculousness gets you through it. Can’t be taken or viewed too seriously, or the frustration will ruin the experience
I know I know it’s a teen show. But that doesn’t mean it’s free from critique.
Lazy lazy lazy. Boring. Misogynistic (in a show about witches, mind you! Should be illegal), and racially insensitive at best
All the credit herself. Roz is more of a character at least, but she is still often reduced to her cunning powers. Then season three with mother Marie, who is used to save the coven from ruin while they are powerless, yet demeaned for practicing a form of magic unfamiliar to them
And another thing I’m noticing, though I shouldn’t be surprised. The magical black woman/savior stereotype?? Overused and slightly insulting. And I’m realizing it’s been happening throughout the seasons. In season one, Sabrina turns to prudence to help her with many of her problems, while taking
Anyways, that’s a season 1-2 issue. But with season 3, I’m mainly annoyed with the laziness of just pulling directly from Greek myth. It’s kind of interesting, and at least a change of pace, but there’s no real creative interpretation. Just copy and paste, with a rebranded name. Lazy lazy
CAOS could have asked if the witches are really free/if they really have power if they’re still serving some greater master/power, but they didn’t have to be so hamfisted about it. Subtlety is great
Where Thomasin is possibly trading one master/form of suppression for another. But where it seems she is also left without any other option, so why not submit to something that offers a glimmer of self-satisfaction?
Is it a common part of witch lore that witches signed their name in a book of the beast, or a contract with the devil? Sure. But in the show, this is meant to be viewed as the ultimate subjugation, but it fails to make that point in a way that feels as thought out as say, The Witch
Maybe instead of satire, it could have been a critique of why strict/stringent gender roles are foolish. Or examine why women would need to seek a source of power divorced from men and what that could look like if they were given free reign to create their own rules and agency
And this is not to say that a matriarchal structure in the witch world would automatically be better or more moral. Ursula Le Guin wrote a short story that examined similar themes, while pointing out both positive and negative possibilities of a matriarchal society
Matriarchal in nature/structure? “But satire!” Well fine, but was this the only method? Would it not have been more interesting to create a juxtaposition between the patriarchy of the mortal world and contrast that with a matriarchy from the witch world?
First of all: why is the church of night/witch society a patriarchal structure? From the writers perspective, maybe the creator couldn’t imagine a social structure divorced from patriarchy. But from a world building standpoint, why would a practice so strongly associated with women not be
