In fact ideally I always wait for a reply every single time I send a wip pic, before I continue working. Sometimes that gives me time to work on another project in between, or juggle with another commission.
When you commission an artist, YOU NEED to see a rough sketch of your idea and they need to ask you if it needs to be reworked.
If they give you WIP and the piece is almost done, not only it's bad practice, but also a redflag.
