Michigan lawmakers have introduced a bill prohibiting the any "depiction or description" of trans people or trans existence online, including it in a bill banning "pornographic" material

The bill would completely erase trans people online, equating them with porn.

Total porn ban proposed by Michigan lawmakers

Some states have moved to require age verification to ensure only adults are watching porn, but no states have outright banned the viewing of pornographic material.

We got here because the "War on Porn" was largely undefended, except by those in the trenches already. Across the country, states have been able to pass dozens of dubious age-verification mandates, the precursor to initiatives like this.

This won't pass, but it moves the window.

We have been screaming about this for the past three years — sex workers, privacy advocates, tech journalists, sex educators, LGBTQ+ activists — only to be told that fighting AV was politically unpopular and we were being hysterical.
