On 24 Oct 1975, around 90 % of Icelandic women walked off the job — and left their unpaid domestic work too. The strike helped lead to Iceland’s first gender-equality law in 1976 and inspired the election of Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the world’s first democratically elected female president, in 1980.
Parliaments rarely conduct gender audits on their own. Chamber of Deputies 🇱🇺 is one of those champions.

🙏 to have met members of the working group tasked to do the job & to share @odihr.pl experience. Our friends from the @sverigesriksdag.bsky.social joined us to share their path.
@odihr.pl will also host a workshop in November with 🇵🇱 political parties to discuss our recommendations on how parties and institutions can advance gender equality in politics.

Among other, we will present our gender audits of political parties tool

Next up: I’ll be in Luxembourg 🇱🇺 on 20 Oct to run a hands-on @odihr.pl workshop on gender audits and gender action plans for parliamentary parties — hosted by Minister @Yuriko, who serves as both Minister of Defence and Minister for Equality and Diversity. Details: www.osce.org/odihr/599715

In October 2025 we mark 25 years of the Women, Peace and Security agenda. It is often viewed through the lens of conflict resolution, peacebuilding and security sector reform.

However, its foundation lies in political equality.

The signing of the Helsinki Final Act marked a defining moment in the evolution of international relations.

Peace and security are only possible through the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Thanks to @Ulkoministerio for marking this milestone together 🇫🇮 🙏
Today, 70 years ago the German National Football Association - DFB - forbid its members to establish women football clubs. The ban will be revoked in 1970. Only in 1982 the Women’s German National Team under the DFB will play its first game against 🇨🇭
