@peskyprofessor.bsky.social dad moved us 50 miles S of Chicago 1951. We were in a small mostly Italian town, S Wilmington next to Garner, until I was 8. 1958 back to Nashville TN was a shock. I'd never seen the signs before, then asked what it meant. In IL my friends were white, black & brown.
