Beatles mostly. Released in 1967 and called Pepper. So, no wonder.

After reading this I insisted that my son watch it with me on catch-up. It was ok but a bit disappointing. My son then pointed out we had watched the Premier League match from last year not the Grand Prix. Watched Grand Prix match. Laughed, cried, shouted, bonded. Amazing. Thanks, Jonathan.

It’s the first syllable of Get Back 🙂

Yup. Joy distilled and tipped into your ears (The Beatles, not the dog.). Name your dog after the Beatles and the job is complete. Mine’s called Sadie. Hope you are doing ok.

I’m sorry Jamie. You’re so clearly a good man loved by many. When I get it I try & make myself do the things I do when I’m not depressed, but more so. Walk, talk, see the sun. Force yourself to do that and the tail may wag the dog and begin recovery. If you can’t do that, for gods sake seek help x

Thanks Chris. One of the things I got from it, apart from the usual sense of joy and awe, is from the excellent lead guitarist being right up front. It brings home, as the wonderful Fathom mentions in her video on AR, how exponentially improved and at the very top of his game George is throughout.

They are the new Rolling Stones. And they really deserve it. A small set of truly great songs and a brilliant vocalist.

Fair play to them.

I think the get-out clause is self-loathing rather than arch, but I might be wrong about that.

My favourite bit of Beatles Live At The BBC is when, after Brian wossname has been asking question after question to John and Paul about what they have been up to, George eventually interjects ‘Ringo and I have been painting Buckingham Palace’.

This reads comfortingly like a bit from a Stewart Lee standup show Rob. I can just see him returning the card that he read it off to his inside jacket pocket after a brief reflective pause. I’ll give it a listen.

A total guess but could it be Ringo’s stepdad Harry Graves? It rings the faintest of bells.

Wonderful thank you Donna. You may well have seen this at the time, but I think this video is fab as well, and the ‘making of’ video shows what a labour of love it was. m.youtube.com/watch?v=F362...

Hi Martin, glad to be introduced by Jack here. I was also on the never-populous-but-always-dwindling J Diedrick ‘Martin Amis Page’ all those years ago, as was of course Geoff Norcott, now famous. Who were you? What memories do you have of it? Jules Clinch? Bill Jarma?

Only A Northern Song?

Yeah fair enough cheers. I agree generally, with the single exception that I thought Rocketman was great, mainly because Elton John insisted on the ‘warts and all’ stuff. Hated Bohemian Rhapsody beyond all expression. Anyway, fingers crossed.

Totally understand. When I buy a new pair of shoes that I really like, I cannot look at my old shoes in case they are upset. My kids think I am pathetic.

Great podcast & guest, thanks guys. But one heartfelt appeal: the ‘jury’ is not ‘out’ on the Mendes/Butterworth movies. The jury is not convened because the ‘crime’ is barely conceived let alone committed. Leading, if not top, UK director and playwright involved. Let’s wait and see. Please.

Thanks. I’ll greatly look forward to this, even if a bit surprised to see Jann Wenner in the list of interviewees. I thought he had been cancelled for sexist and racist comments (he later apologised so maybe that’s why Stew included him) and for preferring John Lennon over Paul McCartney.

This is a great episode, thank you. Very glad that you are keeping going - plenty more books to cover, as you mention. The chat about, and quotes from, the Don Quixote review had me weeping with laughter on the train. Many thanks.

Fascinating, thanks Chris. Wow: So very, very jaded. And to think most of the bad bits of the tour were yet to come. It made me think: but for Paul, but for Pepper… they would surely have split. He is well on the way to getting the credit he’s due at last, is Macca, but he’s not there yet.

At least Stewart Lee acknowledges it, hates it, then embraces it, and gets a good fifteen minutes out of it.

Great thanks. I hadn’t realised you did standup, sorry. Bigfanetcetc…

He said after Content Provider he would never / could never do such an long and exhausting tour again, but if anything he’s upped the ante.
