Ahead of today's UK Budget @aha-uk.bsky.social highlights that alcohol duty should rise with inflation each year, despite alcohol industry claims to the contrary. This is necessary to raise crucial funds to deal with the health and social harms caused by alcohol.

There is a disproportionately high number of people with Alcohol Use Disorder in prison. If more action was taken to address this earlier on in the justice system journey, fewer people would end up in prison.

Alcoholic drinks, along with fruit and fish, are the only food and drink category to have got cheaper, in real terms, since the start of the cost-of-living crisis.

Beer has got slightly more expensive in real terms since the end of 2022, but wine and spirits remain at late 2022 prices.

This is no coincidence.
