As Keeper Walter exclaimed, it looks like they're throwing Laikipia a mini party! The big bull at the back was rescued as an orphan and raised through our programme. Now fully wild, he returns from time to time – and when he does, the whole herd gathers.

Over 4,000 elephants helped. But what does a treatment actually look like?

Watch our SWT/KWS Vet Unit treat a bull with an old spear injury – from darting him safely to cleaning the wound. The outcome? He walked off comfortable, ready to roam free.

Your donations make this possible.

The Umani grandcalves are a delightful lot.

Mwana used to start all the games. Now she's the responsible big sister – while Lenny perches on top of her and Sulwe strikes a pose. Chief troublemakers, both of them. All born wild to orphans we rescued and raised.

Even Korbessa has a Valentine! Someone who gives her trunk kisses and tries (and fails) to give her flowers 🌸

Show your love to someone special with an adoption of an orphaned elephant, rhino or giraffe. It's a gift that keeps growing – just like their baby!

'Brave' isn't a big enough word to describe the orphans in our care. Nothing can erase their past, but we can offer them the wild future they deserve. There is always space for one more our foster family – could it be you? sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/a...

This aerial shot is a reminder of the extraordinary perspectives our pilots witness every day, patrolling Kenya's wilderness from dawn. On the ground, our Keepers get a closer view – at our Kaluku and Nairobi Nurseries, we're hand-raising orphan zebra alongside a host of other orphan creatures.

Seven new grandcalves at Voi in three months. We're overrun!

Cousins Panya and Mica – fun-that-turned-into-a-fight. A few headbutts later, both backed off. Just recharging for the next rumble.

Spot it? An arrow wound on the right leg – left untreated, it would have meant a slow and painful end. Our aerial patrol spotted him and within hours our SWT/KWS Vet Unit was on the scene. Arrowhead removed. Wound treated. Back on his feet.

Lifting the curtain on extraordinary accounts of orphaned elephants going above and beyond to help their orphan – and human – family. Think Emily forming a circle around her Keepers when lions approached and Tundani charging downhill to face predators: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/n...

172.5 kilograms. All those greens and milk bottles are paying off, Kaikai! Rescued her in May 2025, after her mother died of natural causes, an uphill battle is paying off.

Throwing it back to Kaikai versus the guinea fowl. Ears outspread, the mischievous sprite tried to assert her authority over the feathered friends. A sudden loss of confidence saw her head to Keeper Mischeck, and hide behind the tree while she gathered herself. Get to know her: swt.bio/kaikai

It’s especially sweet when our ex-orphans give birth to girls. Elephants are a matriarchal species, which means that females form lifelong family units. When little Sia is all grown up and raising babies of her own, they will still be walking side by side.

More than 4,000 elephants treated – and this chap is one of them. Time was running out until infection set in, the SWT/KWS Southern Vet Unit. Operation complete, the bull woke up and rejoined his friends, who were waiting nearby. Full recovery expected.

Your support helps us save Kenya’s giants.

Kipekee submerges herself completely then heaves onto her feet and crawls out on her belly – usually with a three-nanny entourage watching on. After that? She toddles over for a dust bath. The muddier, the better.

Which photo is your favourite?

When our pilot spotted this giraffe, the image was sent straight to our Field Ops HQ. Within hours, our SWT/KWS Mobile Vet Unit was on the ground. The prognosis? Positive: this giraffe lived to roam another day. Every individual saved helps the species – your support makes these responses possible.

Tytan and Notty were rescued a week apart from different parts of Kenya, but for the same unusual reason: both mothers died in cliff falls. The pair became immediate and inseparable friends, and it has been lovely to see them heal and embrace their Nursery life together: swt.bio/tytan

Jasiri now lives wild in the Kibwezi Forest but he hasn't forgotten where he came from. Every so often, he returns to the Stockades – sometimes alone, sometimes with his new family following cautiously behind. This time, they arrived with a tiny newcomer tucked between the adults!

Start your week with a rare sight from above – a lion family caught on camera during one of our aerial patrols. Our pilots cover vast stretches of Tsavo, monitoring wildlife and keeping watch over everyone from orphaned elephants to apex predators.

Keeper Joseph takes charge of the camera to capture why the Keepers have christened her "our little frog."

To her, it must feel like the whole world revolves around her whims.

Wamata was found alone near the Tiva River – in poor condition, clearly without her mother for some time. She had survived on greens, but without milk, she was fading fast. A month after rescue, regular feeds were already working. Today? Chubby-cheeked and confident. swt.bio/wamata

Look closely – a wire snare had wrapped around her ear so tightly it rotted completely. She simply walked into the wrong patch of bush on the wrong day. But help was at hand. Our Mara Vet Unit treated her – and we've seen elephants overcome similar injuries before.
