Western grebe finds this
deep lake, good rest and fishing
during migration.
Hey there, we were just
minding our own business,
no snackies for you.
Our local ridges,
gold wherever larches grow,
the season’s glories.
Deep in autumn grass,
spotted spreadwings find heartful,
needed connection.
A good place to pause,
showing his fiery glory,
autumn finery.
Bald faced hornet nest
remnants, someone looking for
a fattening snack.
Of all the autumn
glories, her meadowhawk gives
quite the grandest show.
Maclay Flat meadow
dressed for autumn wonderment,
filled with awe and peace.
Not squirrel and moose,
just very angry squirrel,
nut bandits beware.
Up Waterworks Hill,
in between raindrops, settling
into this season.
No Kings Missoula,
standing thousands strong, peaceful,
pointed, principled.
Missoula No Kings,
we are paying attention,
some words to the wry.
The uphill worth it,
the vista above our town
quite satisfying.
Spotted spreadwings danced,
alit briefly, danced some more,
short sparkling season.
She flew to my warmth,
my attempt to admire her,
her grace emanates.
Spread in grandeur, perched
on the crevices, orange
brilliance glowing.
When you have this much
attitude, savor your life
and just take the win.
You’ve no idea
what practice it takes to live
so effortlessly.
The ditch is puddling,
tansy gone brown, fall colors,
meadowhawks emerge.
She’s found a friend, space
to rest, enjoy the sun on
these last few fine days.
Shadow darners gone,
hardy band-winged meadowhawk giving it a go.
The full harvest moon,
the season for the fingers
of night to reach out.
Playing with dried plants,
of course, a dragonfly comes
to rest on my page.
We made it up trail,
fire road still frosty, the climb
good for lungs and soul.
Harvest before frost,
a colorful assortment,
glories of the sun.
