Thread of de-escalation, non-violence, and related training in the Seattle area. I’ll be adding as I learn of additional resources. I might occasionally also share my experiences using the non-violent intervention training I got when I was ~18ish.

Wilson says she'll bring in passionate, competent people with deep experience. "Maybe you'll even see a couple people from Mayor Harold's office, I don't know." Harrell pretty stony-faced at that one.

Have my doubts about this being a real color but letting it go for now.

TFW you’re eagerly awaiting the release of court documents so you can find out if your municipality will be successful in suing to overturn a voter-passed minimum wage increase

This is a joke I don’t get, right?

Hearing from BlueSky that Aaron Judge somehow hit a 6-run home run? Begrudgingly impressed

Literally the moment the boiler was turned on a week ago, AliceLynx returned to the platform above the radiator.

I suspect some of this is a result of the obsession with local control but it baffles me that there seems to be no will to make operations and service easier for rural riders and agencies.
sheridesabike.bsky.social
The amount of handwringing over transit efficiency is a joke when you look at the number of tiny transit providers in our state. What if we had more transit drivers and service and far fewer agencies?

The "public safety on buses" example everyone always gives is "I saw someone smoking fentanyl on the bus." You're not going to fix that problem without addressing fentanyl addiction, even if the county does manage to arrest a few addicts for public drug use.

Interesting that King County Metro (Seattle) is proactively hiring more than 100 new security guards and police on the assumption that they make riders safer, but human service resources are a "maybe" and Metro plans to hold steady but not increase sanitation.

Security changes ahead for King County bus riders
King County Metro is seeking money to staff up with more police, guards, behavioral health teams and bus-stop clearers -- all in the name of more safety.

When Wales lowered its default speed limit from 30 mph to 20, it created a perfect natural experiment. England, a nearby jurisdiction did not.

👀 You can see road deaths declined by 25% in Wales after the policy was implemented. Via @20splenty.bsky.social www.20splenty.org/gb2024stats

I strongly endorse this approach. Sometimes you have to push through and sometimes it’s good to try but it’s also a valid choice to just hit pause and come back later!

It's true for housing, but also every other major issue people care about: with MAGA Republicans gutting all funding to our state, #WALeg rebalancing our upside-down state tax code will be necessary to make any progress in reducing homelessness, bringing down costs, or funding childcare & education.

But that is not the face he has shown during this campaign. And it's certainly not how he's led his office.
sheridesabike.bsky.social
I haven't seen that face of him since then, though. I guess if much of the city's experience with him is that, I get how he got elected to council. I believe he might have been good at brokering compromise among disparate groups.
sheridesabike.bsky.social
Again, I've only met him once, probably almost a decade ago, at a small meeting, and he was fine. He pushed back in a very considerate way, I thought, to point out some potentially problematic framing on the part of folks who were rehabbing Cheasty. He was doing them a favor, honestly.
sheridesabike.bsky.social
It's almost unbelievable but the bar for that has moved. I'm not going to say he's behaving like certain federal executives, but he's pushing it.
sheridesabike.bsky.social
I am still reading the post and FOH. He gets asked about JumpStart and the budget and then just goes off on Katie? FOH.
He is showing over & over& over that he's not fit to lead. Inside the city with how he has treated staff, let toxic management reign, and now publicly with this tantrum.
sheridesabike.bsky.social
LMAO his climate standards leg screws MFH that is owner-occupied and doesn't do shit about SFH owners so I don't really think that is a great example.
