human in the loop/idiot in a hurry
After a shockingly short amount of time, I was able to fully migrate my site from WordPress to @11ty.dev.

This project reminds me of what I enjoy about the Web.

I really enjoyed this episode.
This week, Ben Cerveny, member of the original team at @flickrfdn.bsky.social, joins @rabble.nz to discuss community-driven social media, how algorithms reshaped the internet, and his work as President of the Foundation of Public Code.

Full ep with @neb.me, out now.

I'm taking a little coffee break to call my senators and say defund and abolish ICE. Feel free to do the same.

This is the thing that’s giving me hope lately. As bad as things are, the administration’s plans don’t always work out and are hitting limits. They won’t be around forever.
Trump, and likely Miller who is the guiding force behind all this, think the Insurrection Act is a "I win" button. It's not, at all, he's right that it's been invoked before and he should really look at those circumstances.

Invoking it for Minneapolis likely weakens his position long-term even.

ICE’s killing of Renee Good sent a clear message to Americans: oppose Trump’s policies at your peril. It’s hard to imagine a greater affront to the First Amendment. bit.ly/3Kq348R
ICE Wants to Go After Dissenters as well as Immigrants
The Trump administration is being open about its plans to violate Americans’ First and Fourth Amendment rights.

Democrats need to realize ICE isn’t just—or even primarily—a mass deportation force.

ICE is also Trump’s most loyal internal security force which will be used to attack regime opponents and try to steal the election. They should defund his authoritarian capabilities.

The more I learn about ICE, the more I understand that it’s an organization designed to recruit only loose cannons.

Doesn’t game theory suggest that in a stable, cooperative system where powerful agents play by a set of established rules, someone who “defects” & stops playing by the rules wins big for awhile, but then the system gets destabilized, chaos rules, & eventually a new system gets rebuilt on the ruins?

I’ve been called out for my maudlin posts about fascism lately. I stand by them, man. It’s a scary time in America right now. The only way through Hell is through to butcher the quote.

NEW: Data released by ICE shows that virtually the entire growth of detention in the last few months has been among people with no criminal record at all - no prior convictions (no matter how minor) and no pending criminal charges.

As of today I am more certain than ever Americans labeled as undesirable will be placed in camps or quietly disappeared. I don’t think there’s any hope for civil rights.

Growing up in the 80’s with disability, I knew I was hated for it but at least I could make myself useful with smarts. Now America hates disability and intelligence. The rest of the world is following suit. I don’t think I have a place in this world anymore.
January 8, 2026 at 4:09 AM
I don’t know. I guess this is just the direction the world wants to go. As a disabled person I counted on expertise to be my currency. Now that’s not even valued. What is even the point of going on?

The fact that nothing is being done about this — and that people keep blithely hanging out on that site as though its owner and a key part of its official architecture aren’t actively enabling disgusting criminal abuse at scale — is making me lose my mind
Every piece of reporting I've seen on this is drastically understating the scale. These are from Grok's replies within a single minute. Time-to-reply is degrading because it has such a backlog of NCII/CSAM requests to fulfill. Conservatively I estimate it is producing more than 5000 of these per day

Don’t use Grok. Unless you just want to make it burn tokens into oblivion, in which case, by all means.
“We’re no longer just talking about errors of omission, where the owner of a major social media platform might not devote sufficient resources to mitigating these harms....[Musk] appears to be actively enabling harm-making tools, and then laughing about it.” www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...
X users tell Grok to undress women and girls in photos. It’s saying yes.
The site is filling with AI-generated nonconsensual sexualized images of women and children. Owner Elon Musk responded with a laughing emoji.
