I'm not saying I've had this box of labels for a little while, but the products they're advertising other labels for include VHS tapes, 35mm slides, floppy disks, and audio cassettes... it's literally older than some of my team.

In most homes, Sunday is Roast Night, but in ours we fly in the face of convention. We eat pancakes on Ash Wednesday, and have roast pork on Monday evenings. Delicious!

Urgh. I know it shows I needed it, but is there anything worse than going for a half hour lie down at four and waking up at half seven, not entirely sure who or where you are?

And we're off! Next stop: five days of running/jumping/tree climbing in the stunning (and mobile/wifi-free) Elan Valley. With autumn in full swing, we're expecting some fabulous views.

What a day. On my feet from nine until half seven, but a lasagne and a cottage pie made, a mincemeat cake and a flapjack baked, and everything 'collated' for our trip away next week. Glad to finally sit down!!

Sophie Ellis Bextor's Yes Sir, I Can Boogie is the gift I didn't know I needed. Wonderful stuff.

We had the Mothership over for brunch the other day, which gave us the perfect opportunity to christen the new (to me) goblets I bought to go with my "nonsense pottery" as Gari calls it. Aren't they fabulous?

Happy Sunday smurfs and smurfettes*! Today is a Cooking Day, batch-cooking a week's worth of dinners for four in anticipation of a week away in the Elan Valley tomorrow.

*My new name for your little blue people that live in my phone. I doubt it'll stick.

To confirm our descent into middle age, we've come out this evening to The Overtones' Christmas Party. In early November. In our defence, we saw them in Buxton last year (admittedly in December) and it was one of the jolliest evenings of the season.

So far this afternoon the cat has curled up to sleep on a basket of kindling, and a sack of potatoes. Clearly his soft round cat bed is far too comfortable!

On this, Harman is spot on. Three charismatic and eloquent individuals each peddling dangerous extremist ideologies that are worryingly popular with significant swathes of the electorate.

Forgot that I'd used my jigger for Talisker - now my G&T tastes of peat smoke.

It's BBQ ribs for supper this evening - these beauties have had four hours' slow cooking in their dry rub in the slow oven of the AGA. Now we'll fit them into individual ribs, glaze them in a honey and chipotle BBQ sauce, and get them all hot and sticky. 🤤

Haircut long overdue! With added laundry... (Come back summer, all is forgiven!)

First Patricia, now Prunella - I feel a re-listen to the comic genius Ladies of Letters might be required. Wonder if we can get the Beeb to re-air them...

I can't be alone in being fed up with companies reformulating good products and ruining them in the process? First it was talc; whoever thought cornstarch a good alternative is a moron. Now you need the box to strike Swan Vestas - the whole point was the 'strike anywhere'. 🤬

Last weekend G posted on Facebook about our house being just one step away from a retirement home, due to his being ensconced in a blanket in front of quiz shows. This evening I outdid him; Sunday evening was spent with a railway jigsaw and a Tracey Chapman CD.

Not a bad supper tonight - sausage and chestnut 'mound' (was supposed to be a plait, but pastry is a fickle mistress).

It's a Eurythmics kind of evening as I work through the dinner and dishes tonight - apologies might be needed to the neighbours, but when they churned out banger after banger you just can't help but embrace your Inner Annie!
