The silence was a breath shy of uneasy. His footsteps echoed. The stage, empty behind him.

He looked out to the audience and saw her in the front row. His eyes meeting hers as he started the #soliloquy.

Is this my wife which I see before me? Her hand toward my hand? Come, let me hold thee

He always felt that missing a #vss365 was an #augury of armageddon. He'd left a post in draft but when the cab arrived it was already tomorrow.
He put his phone on charge and awoke to #magenta skies. A crow sat on the fence, staring at the moon that refused to give way to the sun.

When Mr Love put on Le Freak at the school disco, you led me to the dance floor. You spent the next 40 years teaching me to dance. I spent 20 years with you in my arms.

At last week's record fair i found C'est #Chic and turned to show you. Reached for a hand that was no longer there.

The #vespertine beauty of Church Street was most apparent in December. The salvation army glistened under the Christmas tree lights. Bobble hat-topped children saw themselves reflected in department store windows. Gloved hands hugged mugs of soup. Wham battled the Pogues across the street.

The last of the vikings died in battle. Any other outcome would have tainted his name. He wasn't #chivalrous because that wasn't how you won your battles. He didn't follow the rules. Rules are for games, not for life.

He was honest. There was no need to lie if you were proud.

He was loyal

On his 13th birthday he shut his bedroom door. From the garden, his mother could see the blinds were closed.
A repeating melody drifted through the house from his #aphotic sanctuary for the next seven years. The words were indistinct, except for the chorus of "sorry" and "find me."

The queue started at Midnight. Every punk, goth and hippy from a 20 mile radius gathered. Each different. Each the same. A tribe of the unique.
To the left of the door, sat on a bench, reading a book, was #Suave Sammy. The door opened, he picked up his bowler hat and calmly took his place.

#Last New Year i gave you a kiss and you turned your cheek.
Last Easter I gave you apple blossom and you shook the branch.
Last Midsummer I gave you dawn over the stones and you overslept.
Last Halloween you danced with a vampire.
This Christmas I'll watch Die Hard with memories of you

What have you learnt in your life?

Almost nothing actually #matters. Every fatal wound is just a superficial cut. When the world is going to end, it only pauses.

So what matters?

Measuring your life against the moments of happiness. Rainfall is what happens when the Sun is about to shine

He stared at his phone and waited for inspiration. His feed filled with #vss365 posts as his coffee grew cold.

Lunchtime came and went with all ideas still hiding out of reach.

The sun set. The moon rose over the fields. The battery died.

Still nothing.

Well... at least he had his #health

Every day I'm #learning how not to be alone. The kettle boils and I take my mug off the shelf. I catch myself and reach for a second cup. The TV turns on in living room and I'm startled for a moment.

I wake up in the night and see your outline under the duvet. I smile and go back to sleep.

He paced himself up the hill, looking up for landmarks. He #timed his final push for the lonely hawthorn tree just shy of the top. As the gradient increased and his rivals slowed he made his move. The wind drew tears from his eyes as he collapsed on his father's bench at the summit.

He still toured and people still sent him cheese scones. He didn't mind the smaller venues; he just wished he was still #relevant. Wished some of those younger faces weren't just bringing their parents.
He tried updating his wardrobe, did bits on smartphones but he couldn't escape himself.

Her feed was full of posts about hotels overlooking tropical beaches and fast cars glowing in the sun. Reels saying that everything is #achievable.
Her last commente was to say she was trying. The replies all said she had to try harder.
It took her mum two weeks to get access to the account.

He wants everything to be #measurable. If he can't put a figure on it, it doesn't exist. His father gave him a chocolate for every race he won. His mother gave him a hug every time he got an A on his homework.
He's never said "I love you". It's too abstract. Too subjective.

Eddie loved plums. His parents were glad he enjoyed healthy food but were puzzled about how fussy he was. If he was offered fruit it had to be a #specific slice. He'd go as far as turning away if it was the wrong piece.
Why didn't they pick the one the goblin was pointing at?

She couldn't see her future but she kept seeing the past. Every moment in her life was continually repeated like a series of #action replays. She had no control. The slightest prompt would project a memory in front of her eyes. She was drawn in. Forced to relive her history.

His life had always been full of #options when all he wanted was to be told. Should he turn left or right? Say yes or no?
When he stood outside the jewellers he saw the solution in his reflection. He pleaded guilty and smiled as he was led away.
Meals at fixed times. No menu. No choice of TV

She told me about the wedding. The flow of the bride's dress. The summer sun glistening on her skirt like raindrops on snow. The light in her eyes as she saw her groom waiting at the altar.
"You should've seen it."
She reached for my hand as the nurse walked in.
"It was beautiful."

We stood behind the #goal, about halfway up the terrace. Got in about an hour before kick-off for a chat and a catch-up. Same old jokes, warming our hands on cups of weak coffee. Four young lads, growing old together.
Best friends, counting the years by the weeks of each season.

The first #issue of the fanzine sold 23 copies. It would've been 25 but two were returned when punters realised it wasn't the match day programme. Five years later people would return the programme after mistaking it for the fanzine.

Of course that was after we'd armed our sellers.

On her daily commute with #Transport for London she's surrounded by friends she doesn't know. White trainer man on the bench at Baker street. Last minute girl finishing her lipstick on the Bakerloo.
Book boy is on holiday. He was reading about Spain last week. Is he reading on a beach today?

#science is just mathematics. Nature is good like that. It likes things to be neat and tidy.
That was always my problem with Einstein. Yes, E=MC is nice, but the "squared" part is a bit jarring.
Don't get me wrong; it's a good start and I told him that. I'm just saying it could be... more

My lucky #number is two.

Why's that?

One is alone.
Two is company. Comfort. Support.
Three is a crowd.
One is contained. Secure. Idyllic.
One is me.
Three is them.
Two is us.

And?

And it helps keep the character count down for my #vss365
