the WNBA stars are well-equipped to take on management in a way other major athletes usually aren't. they've had to figure out how to do their own marketing, how to make money outside of the league, how to advocate for themselves etc. they've had to fight for so much that it comes naturally to them

With 39 days until college basketball we revisit the first ever NCAA tournament in 1939, won by Oregon, then known as the Webfoots! Joining them in the original Final Four were Ohio State, Villanova and Oklahoma. Despite this early success, Oregon wouldn't make another final four until 2017. 🦆

Credit to @roccomiller8.bsky.social who broke the American's new conference tournament model earlier. The WCC started it, the Sun Belt expanded it, I think this is the best path forward if you're a (likely) one-bid league in the era of mega-conferences.
