I got really exhausted with Deezer's godawful UX. Tidal has been a remarkable surprise not only from the perspective of the algorithm it's tossing, but also how much they actually have of my core catalog of listening.
Willem Dafoe as Max Shrek as Count Orlok in Shadow of the Vampire (2000) manages to be terrifying, humorous and tortured all in one performance. An overlooked Halloween Movie

C.S. Lewis responding to a letter from an American schoolgirl asking him for some writing advice.

My sincerest apologies for anyone I annoyed driving through the Columbia River Gorge at 1am near Rowena yesterday. I had been driving for 5 hours and at that point my only resolution was a full throated rendition of Neverending Story by Limahl.

Limahl - Never Ending Story (Official Music Video)

(and if you must stream Tidal, Deezer, Quobuz are your best options for getting *some* money to the artist)
It's remarkable to me, all the people who are just now leaving Spotify over their ICE ads and AI music. They showed you who they were when they gave Joe Rogan $250 million dollars to spew right wing insanity. Own your music, pay the artists. @bandcamp.com
(This is also me avoiding doing actual work at work this morning! So apologies)
It's hard to explain but it's a feeling of deliberateness - for example the line "Red is what were once the white of their eyes" feels like it's looking for the drama but reaching a bit too far across the table to find it. I hope that makes sense-I do recognize this may just be me over-analyzing.
I really like the overarching idea and the Wuthering Heights-esque Gothic fiction vibe, but (and please take this with honest good natured criticism), it comes off as a bit anachronistic. You may want to consider revisiting Gothic literature it may help avoiding a pastiche trap. Keep going though!
And in relation to my last post, the Wild God Tour live was fucking transcendent. (Nick Cave at the The Theater of the Clouds in Portland Oregon May 10th 2025)

Today's artist without a (known) birthday: Jan Mandijn, of Haarlem and Antwerp. He's sharing today w/ his fellow Boschy painters. Here, his own lively Temptation of Saint Anthony, 1550s.
The author had some mental health issues and the fourth book was essentially on ice the last time I read anything about the series.
Would also recommend Deezer, they are EU based and pay per listen to the artist, rather than diluting money via labels. And of course: @bandcamp.com Own your music and pay the artist directly.
