Abundantly ⚓️
When I worked for the Diocese, one of the things I did was to read all the parish and diocesan newsletters that came in. I have a vivid memory of reading a bishop’s reflection about the importance of strawberries as a theological symbol of abundant grace. 1/3

Honor ⚓️
I suppose I find it difficult to honor any human. This is the statue of Ghandi at the entrance to the MLK Center in Atlanta. MLK found inspiration for non-violence in the legacy of Ghandi. But Ghandi held fairly strong beliefs that Africans were racially inferior. 1/2

The teen has been discoursing about linguistics terms and I’m pretty sure someone has tried to sell half of them to me on an infomercial at 2am.

I’m a lector for Lessons & Carols this afternoon. I have the Luke reading.

Must remember not to end it with, “and that’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”

If you have to put your face on a condom wrapper with the notation of HUUUUGE, then perhaps you’re compensating.

Written ⚓️
Advent is the season of preparation. Of being prepared. One of the most useful ways I find to prepare is to keep informed about the world as it is: what is happening and how we got to here. 1/2

Equity⚓️
Equity and equality are big buzz words these days. And I wonder if we really understand not only the concepts, but our own needfulness of them. Not one of us is whole on our own. We all have a broken edge, a piece left aside, a gap that must be matched to make us whole.

Counsel
Whether it is counsel we need or counsel we give, it should have the end result of opening the closed parts of our hearts and removing the barriers that come between us and loving one another better.

Heed
I think maybe I can never express enough gratitude for all the people through the years who have taught me to slow down, to observe the small moments, to pay heed to the tiny glimpses of the holy in my midst.

There is a very fine line between exhausted, random-free-association brain drivel and really good improv.

Not sure which side I’m on this evening.

Gratify
Thinking that gratify meant “make grateful,” I was all excited to pontificate on gratitude. And then I looked up the word to be sure. And it means to please or satisfy. So, I hope you get the chance to do something that gratifies someone today. Make them look like Isak Heartstone here. ⚓️

Quietness
I sometimes wonder how it would feel to sit inside a flower. How quiet to have so many lush layers cocooned around you, suspended in softness. Untouchable. How would I take that stillness, that gentle peace, onward when the petals drop?

Tribes
It seems so obvious. So reasonable. To tribe. To self-select into groups. To put ourselves in narrow ranges. Conservative. Church women. Rich. Married. 20s/30s. Progressive. Divorced. Poor. Seniors. Men’s retreats. 1/3 ⚓️

The words we say and write and leave behind have the capacity to spread and bring joy and destruction in equal amounts.

Again
Heraclitus said that we cannot stand in the same river twice. The water has flowed and changed and so has the person experiencing it. And again we find Advent. And though the rituals have the same shape, whether and how they affect you will never be the same experience twice. ⚓️ 1/2 #AdventWord
