OK, here's my first bash at target-based movement in Curse of Cards where the player blueprint evaluates nodes in-range.

This way we can have free camera movement while still retaining the dungeon crawler grid-based movement.

This is a great point!

Maybe I can look into the turning mechanics on-grid then.
Perhaps being able to move diagonally, but still fundamentally from grid point to grid point would help.

The main thing is how disorientating it is turning 90° everywhere.

I'm trying free movement instead of grid-based for Curse of Cards.
Whaddya reckon?

Pros: Better interaction with water and foliage; less disorientating; rooms can be any shape.

Cons: You lose the vibe.

Curse of Cards is slowly getting some variation in the environment.

Implemented biomes on the dungeon floors for Curse of Cards!

It’s just a colour change for now, but having rooms grouped together thematically should help players orient themselves when wandering about.
