Hello! I like to share my thoughts and progression on visual novels, games, anime, TV/movies and other media. A big FFXIV fan but currently into Star Rail. Let's be friends! Keep the vibe positive, please!

I've made it to Rimuldar, but wandering too far south has put me in battles with 2 chimeras and a Scarewolf (Wyvern and Wolflord on NES) which is just one of many dangerous encounters I've barely survived.
I was worried in the first hour or two that the DQ remake would be a really easy affair and even considered setting it to Draconic difficulty.

Fortunately, things have really ramped up and the world feels about as scary as it did in the original.
Is this emergent gameplay? First, that car stopped on the tracks. The train blew the whistle aggressively and came to a stop. Even when I was fully out of the way, it was a standstill.

I violated the law (Oblivion voice) to get by and saw a huge traffic backup on the other side.
There’s a map available for the overworld and all of the dungeons that you can pull up. And as mentioned previously lighting or the lack thereof is no longer an issue. It’s like any other more modern RPG.
There are a lot of new inns, ruined villages, and other locations scattered across the world.

That does take away some of the sense of peril since you don’t have to travel as far from civilization, but things can still get very dangerous in a hurry if you over extend yourself.
Battles are no longer one on one, but one versus groups of enemies, hence the need for the expanded arsenal. It does make you feel more of a legendary hero.

Chimera wings let you warp to any area you’ve found, including dungeons.
Neat how some of the optional caves in Dragon Quest 1 now have a story purpose and are expanded on like everything else.

Other big differences are that there are a ton of new spells and abilities that weren’t in the original game, including some you learn by finding items scrolls.
Almost like the NES version was an abridged retelling. But I’m not sure it can surpass that version for me. It was a magical part of my childhood.there are more events happening, more kinds of monsters.
I’m still pretty early on, but so far this DQ remake is really good. The world feels so familiar but much more alive.

All the same locations I remember are there, but there are new ones as well. More people to talk to, the characters are more fleshed out.
We get more Dragonlord in the remake! He says the king of kings line! He uses a crazy spell. Gwaelin is a character and not just an object to be saved and married. She stands up to the Dragonlord. Loving this.
DQ1 HD: I kind of wish torches were still needed in dungeons, but I’m glad the music gets slower and more ominous the farther down you go, just like in the original.

I’m not really liking the battle voices/grants so I think I might just turn voice acting off.
And got a nice trophy for her house.
Endwalker Societies to Allied, it took some time, but we got there.

It's been a hard day, phyiscally and mentally, and this helped a lot. Many great screenshots.
I love seeing Honey B and the rest at the bottom. Mist was a big FF9 thing so the title makes sense.
Powerwash Sim 2 is still a blast. I feel like this represents my inner turmoil or something.
Just some trucking odds and ends.
Just two more accessories to augment.
Things may be expanded on, but the core of it seems to be perfectly in place. I love the way the green dragon battle is staged here.

I haven’t actually played it yet, but I’ve been browsing videos.
I’m so glad that the DQ1 remake has been localized this way. We’ve got Erdrick, Gwaelyn, Dragonlord, we’ve got the olde English and from what i can tell, it captures the experience of playing this on the NES perfectly. The GBC version was rough for me.
