This month marks 10 years since the #Dieselgate emissions scandal first broke. 🚗 💨

So, how did it all start?

In the 1990s, diesel cars grew popular in Europe. By 2011, they were over half of new registrations. But concerns about NOx emissions, linked to health issues, grew.

10 years ago today, the #Dieselgate emissions scandal broke—uncovered by ICCT research. 🚗💨

Real-world testing revealed diesel cars emitted up to 35× the legal limits of nitrogen oxides (NOx), exposing widespread use of defeat devices. It became a pivotal moment for the global auto industry.

Yes, battery electric cars have higher manufacturing emissions.

BUT these are offset within just 2–3 years of driving (~17,000 km).
