When it comes to aviation’s climate impact, CO₂ isn’t the full story. Non-CO₂ effects like contrails and soot also play a role. These depend on fuel composition rather than feedstock.

10 years since #Dieselgate, legal actions continue.

In the UK, the largest group action claim in English legal history recently begun addressing the alleged use of defeat devices in diesel cars.

#SAF is currently around 2–5x more expensive than fossil jet fuel due to costly feedstocks and complex production.

Synthetic fuels and second-generation biofuels are particularly expensive, but critical to climate goals.

So, how did it all start?

In the 1990s, diesel cars grew popular in Europe. By 2011, they were over half of new registrations. But concerns about NOx emissions, linked to health issues, grew.

10 years ago today, the #Dieselgate emissions scandal broke—uncovered by ICCT research. 🚗💨

Real-world testing revealed diesel cars emitted up to 35× the legal limits of nitrogen oxides (NOx), exposing widespread use of defeat devices. It became a pivotal moment for the global auto industry.
