The recording process was deliberately unstructured - 13 pieces were recorded, with only 10 making the final album. "Whatever sounded interesting, we put it all in. We captured inspiration without hesitation. I wanted to move away from calculated music."
Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Left Handed Dream" emerged from pure creative instinct. "We created songs day by day," Sakamoto recalls. "Not finished music, but starting with just a drum idea, then adding bass riffs, guitar riffs."

The collaboration between Fennesz and Sakamoto started with an hour-and-a-half improvisation when they first met. In addition to the duo's albums and live performances, Fennesz also participated as a guitarist on Sakamoto's solo tours.

In his Tokyo apartment, Ryuichi placed Kenjiro Okazaki’s painting above his upright piano—it remained there until the very end.
Okazaki was one of Ryuichi's artistic inspirations.

The piece has taken on new forms throughout Sakamoto's discography, appearing on his solo piano album "/05". Later, long-time friend and collaborator Taeko Onuki wrote lyrics for the piece, titling it "Antinomy" for their duo album "UTAU." (2010).

Originally composed for the film "Femme Fatale" (2002), directed by Brian De Palma, where it also appears as an all-string arrangement under the title "Future."
Previously unreleased recordings of Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Parolibre - Live At The Ace Hotel DTLA 20191018", "Field Recording: 20151005_WAV - Los Angeles," and his past collaboration with Goldmund - "A Word I Give" are included in the compilation.
All proceeds from this release will support empowering frontline organizations dedicated to relief and recovery for affected families.
