My review of Role Model by Elle McNicoll
5/5⭐

An absolute must read for everyone, especially autistics. Her best book so far.

Cover for the book Role Model. Pale blue background with icons from social media, numbers and elephants scattered over it around a headshot of a person with dark blue shoulder length hair, light skin, hands on the sides of their head, red lips slightly angled. The title of the book is in dark blue with a red background as 2 stripes across their eyes. Elle McNicoll's name is along the bottom of the cover formatted to look like it's in a comment bubble.

Getting back into the swing of things. Been distracted by LARP a fair bit recently but I'm shaking off the burn out slowly. Still won't be doing full-on massive reviews for a bit but that's not mandatory anyway 😊

Did I just post 2 reviews back to back, one of a cute kids book and another of Korean body horror? Yes I did, and both are great books 😄

My review of A Mermaid's Diary by Chris Riddell

Perfect art as always from Chris, and spot on humour even for adults!

Cover image. Shows the title of the book over the blue sky, clouds coloured in a gradient from yellow at the top down to pink at the bottom, seagulls are dotted around the sky too. Blue sea with white webbing across the bottom of the image. A mermaid with red hair, green t-shirt and a pearly light blue tail is waving from the water. Behind her is some magical creatures and a red and white striped lighthouse.

My review of New Seoul Park Jelly Massacre by Cho Yeeun
4.5/5⭐

Insane, body horror-y sticky sweet book that isn't exactly *fun* but it is enjoyable.

🩸📚 🪐📚 💙📚👀 #BookReview
Cover image. Top half shows a human face that's made from a reddish pink gloopy jelly-like substance, that's dripping down onto a human regular-looking face on the bottom half of the image. Between the 2 faces, behind them in the background, you can see part of a rollercoaster, a greenish sky and a castle that looks a bit like the Disney castle.

My review of Needy Little Things by Channelle Desamours
3.5/5⭐

Very good, slightly predictable but not fully (at least for me), pretty damn good characters too!

My review of Strange Pictures by Uketsu

Weird, engaging, but falls short with its gimmick.

Cover of Strange Pictures by Uketsu. Cover is a red background, with a green based and black walled bento box. There's red blood dripping down it, a piece of nigiri with an octopus tentale ontop and red blood between the rice and octopus. There's also a soy sauce fish shaped packet to the side.

Ended up getting burnt out a bit on reviews, thought it was a slump at first but no I guess it was just burn out 😅

Got 1 new review written up though on a fun book, and I just finished up another that was quite fun to read :3 Might be writing shorter/less structured reviews for a bit though

Cover of the book The Underwood Tapes by Amanda Dewitt. The cover mostly has a teal/light blue and green colour palette, black cassette tapes and their tape is woven around 2 characters stood back to back in the middle. One on the left has blonde hair in an over-the-shoulder braid wearing a white t shirt and a black jacket. They're looking towards the reader. The other character on the right has very short black hair wearing a patterned red t shirt. Their face has been smudged out.

It's WHY ON EARTH release day!

I’m so proud of this book and everything it turned out to be. This project took a huge leap of faith from everyone involved, trusting in us and our vision for this queer, goofy, alien book. Thank you to everyone who believed! 👽💕🛸

Rosiee (white, short curly brown hair, geometric glasses, wearing a black shirt with an alien head on it that says "humans aren't real") holding a copy of Why on Earth (Cover is Illustration with soft lines gives a hazy effect in purple, blue and orange. It depicts a circular alien ship crash landing near the santa monica pier, leaving trails of smoke behind it. In the foreground, five teenagers stand on the beach pointing at it. One records it on a phone. The title is written in white futuristic text over the top.)

Damn, my kindle is about to give out on me and I was going to pick up a kobo to replace it...

Netgalley has really been making a lot of questionable choices recently..
skysreads.bsky.social
I always ignore them, and whenever I turn a book over to read the description and only find quotes I find it genuinely frustrating. I've actually just put down some books instead of hunting for the description due to that!
skysreads.bsky.social
Just started The Underwood Tapes by Amanda DeWitt (at 18%) and this start is just perfection 👌

I didn't read the description, I requested the ARC just based on the fact that I loved Aces Wild so I had no idea what to expect. But my god this will be an incredible read, I know it!

Yeah that's why I've been really wanting to read this!!! Knowing how long it generally takes for UK editions to release though, my best bet will just likely be to order a US edition when it releases over there haha
