Thread here of good recent horror movies if you’re looking for something to watch tonight because the NHL is on a one-day hiatus four days into the season for some fucking reason

now that it's Spooky Season, I'm going to do my annual thread of horror movies from the last year or so that you might want to check out based on what you're in the mood for. They are all free options Prime, Netflix, and Tubi for maximum access and we'll skip mega-hits like Sinners and Weapons

I agree with the 'mitigate' losses thing, it's just a matter of how much can be mitigated. It feels like "you can either have all five fingers on your right hand chopped off, or you can have four of them chopped off and keep your pinky".

Jordan Spence is the Prince Who Was Promised

I'm interested to see what they do whenever Batherson gets back. I'm generally not a fan of breaking up lines when they're legitimately playing well, and if Greig-Pinto-Giroux keeps this up for a few games, they'll have quite the decision to make.

I'm a fan. If he truly is one of those "he's this team's 2C but he'd be a 1C on like 20% of the teams in the league", it's a franchise-changing event

even if that's an upgrade, upgrading from AHL-level to fringe NHL-level just isn't enough to make up for how important Samberg is and how much the middle-6 is missing Lowry and Ehlers

back in August, I wrote about how Simon Holmström looked primed for a breakout this year substack.com/home/post/p-... and just watch him pick up the puck, beat the first guy, cut around the second, draw a third, and then a seam pass right to Shabanov

Victor Hedman? More like Loser Hedman.

Kreider-Carlsson-Terry at 5v5 last night according to NatStat:
+18 shot attempts
+7 shots
65% xG

pretty good start

mentioned it in today's Ramblings, but Winnipeg is going to *really* miss Dylan Samberg until he gets back. last night with Josh Morrissey on the ice, they were +7 in shots at 5v5. With Morrissey off the ice, they were -16.

I see Monahan/Marchenko picked up where they left off last year. @naturalstattrick.com has them with 12:18 in 5v5 TOI together last night:
77% xG
+1 goals
+6 shots

aye man the Greig-Pinto-Giroux line absolutely steamrolled Guentzel-Point-Kuch. holy hell

Scratching Jordan Spence to play Donovan Sobrango makes me think of one of my favourite movie quotes of the last five years

Three goals in 4.5 periods for Bolduc. Checking with my stats guy to figure out if that’s good or bad.

An understandable reaction

I’m just impressed you made it past anger. I’d be stuck there for months.

not enjoyable seeing the Habs lose their season opener, but they played even with last year's division winner and the difference was a broken-stick play. thought Bolduc and Dobson both looked great in their first games and the top line was buzzing all night. there are worse ways to lose.

I get why they do all the games starting at the top of the hour (keeps hockey fans on the same channel watching commercials rather than other games) but I don't get stacking all these games today with none tomorrow. Save a few!

It'll be very interesting to see what the team does if his first 20 games look like his first 2 games because they may have to play him 24 minutes a night at that point, but whether they do it or not is another matter.
