But if you're willing to give it the patience it asks out of you it's easily one of the best experiences the series has to offer, warts and all it's one of my favorites still

It can be a little long in the tooth, I think its length is justified for the most part but gathering fragments can really slow things down even on the 3DS version and it does overstay its welcome towards the last third, the vocation system also takes way too long to get introduced

It's emblematic of the things that give Dragon Quest its identity while being one of the most narratively unique, the way it utilizes the concept of time traveling to present itself in more isolated chunks before it all comes together on the latter half is really great

I really love how melancholic the past segments in DQ7 feel, on top of having some very bittersweet vignettes the way most of them develop entirely in isolation from one another really give it a sense of loneliness that's unlike anything else in the series
