#EarlyModern #17thC I'd be glad of some help with how assessments for these 3 levies were calculated. I'm researching a clergyman who paid £5 for the 1620 clergy Palatinate 'loan', over £6 in 1639 for the Scottish war (these seem rather steep!) and £1 6s 8d p/a (1634-36) for the repair of St Paul’s.

2 / 2 But there's a lot more one could reflect upon / infer based on what the court records seem to imply. Also, FWIW, it seems to me that he was... exceedingly selective... in the evidence he drew upon for James VI / I & Buckingham... ;) BTW, is the Young book on James still worth a look?
