“Interrupting gameplay for visual flair is unacceptable in a fighting game.” New VIRTUA FIGTHER Project producer talks about the title’s pursuit of “reality, not realism” automaton-media.com/en/interview...

Two viral posts in the past week or so that feel like they're in dialogue with each other: one lamenting that game developers are relying too much on online player feedback, one about how social media presence is perceived as a metric of popularity.

It used to be that "Is the Pope Catholic?" was the go-to rhetorical question in reference to something that was obviously true. But the replies to this post suggest some people are truly shocked to learn the Pope is Catholic
In a new doctrinal note, Pope Leo and the Vatican sharply reject polygamy and growing Western polyamory, praising monogamy as an exclusive union between one man and one woman.

The funniest part of all the MAGA grifters being exposed as foreigners is that Ian Miles Cheong isn't one of them. He's a Malaysian guy apparently living in Dubai who LARPs as an American conservative but he's been doing this for years. Strictly in it for the love of the game.

I was reading a review of the Mortal Kombat collection that was effusive in its praise for the archival effort it was and thinking the whole time "unfortunately you have to play Mortal Kombat" but then the author just came out and said it. So I can respect this level of hater energy
cackling at that analogue 3d review that praises the effort and dedication put into making it run n64 games in the best way possible but then goes "unfortunately the n64 just sucks ass"

There was a post a while back lamenting that critics will always complain that every new musou is exactly the same as the others without actually engaging with the games. I'm not a musou guy so I won't wade into that debate but it's telling that the same thing doesn't happen with, say, Call of Duty.

Something that's been bugging me about how the game industry talks about AI tools: often you'll hear "no, we're not using genAI, we're just using machine learning tools to speed up workflows. We've had them for years." Which is fine. But then it's not really revolutionary future tech, is it?

The tension of being a Genesis fan is knowing that Phil's solo music sucked but also that there's really no way to blame him for the bad Genesis albums. "Yeah, Phil Collins hijacked the band from the uncompromising artistic mind behind Mike and the Mechanics." Be serious for a moment.

The problem with stages in Virtua Fighter 5 is that most of them are just a conspicuous rectangle in the middle of a place. The actual fighting area feels completely disconnected from the background.

Almost all mammals, regardless of size, take the same amount of time to pee from a full bladder (around 21 seconds). This is because the ratio of urethral length to width is remarkably consistent. Very small animals are the exception due to surface tension stopping the stream from flowing.
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share

Trying to give trio-era Genesis a fair shot. And Then There Were Three is actually quite good, really not too different from the quartet era aside from the songs being shorter. Duke is decidedly poppier but you can still recognize them as the same band.

Thinking about Death Stranding 2. There's a very real possibility that I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't replayed the first game right before. The sequel is just more of the same in a lot of ways. "Death Stranding again" would have had a stronger effect with the first not so fresh in my mind.

The only remarkable things about the Game Awards nominees is that they actually nominated Konatsu Kato instead of Suzie Yeung for Silent Hill f. I'm think that's the first time they've nominated someone for a non-English performance.

It's funny that there's a whole laundry list of reasons to criticize the Game Awards and yet people instead jump on absurd conspiracy theories that don't hold up to a moment of scrutiny.

Haven't used this thing in a while. Here's a quick piece I wrote about Pragmata and how rare a new Capcom IP is these days. Short answer: Less rare than some people think, but still hardly common, and the rest of the industry isn't a lot better. negativeedge.beehiiv.com/p/how-rare-i...
