Rocky Mountain National Park pro tip: The entrances on the east side usually look like this. Also, the drive down Wonderview to the Fall River entrance is a 1000 times more enjoyable and less stressful than navigating through town to the Beaver Meadow entrance. #hiking #RMNP #NationalPark

The face of an unrepentant maniac who tries to jump down a 45 degree slab, goes into a total free-slide, is saved by his mother who THANKFULLY unhooked before attempting this maneuver, meaning the leash was in her hand, not clipped to her waist, and would hands-down do it again. #dogsky #hiking

5/5 great read! I was shocked at how much detail exists from this event & at how many people lived through it! I felt like this after reading Endurance too, but were people just more…hardened back then? They’re so blasé about frostbite &utations, just keep trucking along. #justfinished #booksky

2 Peter Swanson books this last month! The Kind Worth Saving is 2nd in a series & it kind of loses the shock value of the 1st book, but is still a fun read. Kill Your Darlings is cleverly written &though the final twist was obvious, he somehow sneaks it up on you.4/5 for both. #booksky #justfinished

A new summit for Turk, but a stressful one. He’s a lunatic on a scramble, w/a ‘leap first, think later’ mentality, which is not safe on this hike. We had to physically help him down the approach, including using my legs as a step. So glad I never tried to take him up here by myself! #hiking #dogsky

5/5 oh boy. a book title that is 100% accurate. It IS a short history of Russia! Maybe the shortest ever! A great quick guide to the Russian timeline, it’ll hopefully whet your whistle for the chaotic absurdity that is Russia government. No details, just the big stuff #justfinished #booksky

The sweet sounds of nature at 3am (elk sparring, not cats fighting with sticks) I think elk make the funniest noises. They’re so majestic and powerful, then they’ll start squealing and shrieking #wildlife

Felt so off being up here after the cougar attack. This is not backcountry, it’s one mile off the road. But someone lost their life 10 days ago doing this very casual thing so many people love doing. The ridge felt safe enough before, today I felt like an unwelcome and vulnerable intruder. #hiking

Horrible news from Glen Haven. Some people commenting on my town’s social media pages said they were on the scene shortly after the attack & this was a fatality. This is just beyond shocking on such a popular trail. I was up there half dozen times last year alone

The animals were certainly out at Horsetooth today, including a little turkey trot down the road (not keeping to the speed limit at ALL) and a bald eagle flyover #wildlife

It’s 70 degrees at 5000 feet, but if you go up to 9000’ you can make a decent snow angel. This is Old Fall River Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, which opens to foot traffic when it closes to car in the winter, and is one of the few places to hike with your dog inside RMNP #hiking #RMNP #dogsky
