“I wanted to say a massive thank you for sending me a box of beautiful things whilst I’ve been unwell with ME/CFS for the past year with no sign of an end yet. This illness has stripped away my career, some relationships, days out and holidays with my daughter, some independence and the ability to keep building a life I worked really hard to get. “I have just received the most thoughtful gifts from your charity after being nominated. I am currently overwhelmed as this is the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me.  I've struggled for over twenty years with finally getting a diagnosis three years ago, I'm now 41 and the battle continues. My condition has declined over the past year leaving me in a very dark place mentally.  Today I feel remembered and that my existence still matters. I have heartfelt tears of happiness as I type this message, I am extremely grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

Severe ME Day 8th August

Sending love to those affected by Severe ME and remembering those who have sadly lost their lives 🩵

This day aims to bring public attention to the illness for the sake of all those presently suffering from Severe Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and to remember all those who have died from ME.’ to the left with the Severe ME day logo to the right. Underneath the words ‘8th August was chosen as it is the birth date of Sophia Mirza. She has been referred to as the first patient in the UK to have CFS (ME) listed as a cause of her death, however a letter to New Scientist magazine suggested there had been a previous death attributed to the disease. Sophia was bed-bound with Severe ME and was a victim of medical abuse. Her doctors did not believe that ME was a physical disease and so she was forcibly taken from her bed/home by social workers, police officers and doctors, and kept in a psychiatric facility where she received inappropriate treatment and care. Sophia subsequently died of ME at the age of 32. August’s Smiles have been posted 🎁 Kindly funded by and sent in memory of SJ. SJ suffered from Severe ME for many years and seeing no future ahead of her she sadly took her own life last August aged 49. We are thinking of and sending love to her family and friends 🩵
