I've seen a lot of the classic arthouse fare in the horror genre, as that's the generally the sea I swim in. I'd really like some recs on super scary ones for this October, though. They don't have to be "elevated" (what a terrible term), just a fun jolt

as someone who works in TV/film and frequently creates things that certainly aren't above rapproach, it feels tacky for me to criticize. I know the hard work the goes into creating these projects. all I'm saying is: steer back toward the VHS theme a little. thank u

just watch Hallucinations or Possibly in Michigan and you'll see there's endless untapped creative potential still left on the table with those magical little tapes. miss me with that shit shot in 4K and cheap post processing that looks like a filter slapped on in davinci resolve.

while I do like the amount of practical effects used in the V/H/S movies, the lack of commitment to the actual format in its title is really disappointing. the way it's just "found footage" w/ scanline FX is so blegh. VHS is such a diverse format with a rich variety of textures & creative options!

SPOILERS: I have a ton of complaints about the movie, & that scene initially pissed me off for the same reasons as you. But thought it looped back to that topic in a poignant way with his daughter scared at the end of the film, demonstrating the importance of those words to her literal safety.

Those on an H1B cannot return to the US from tomorrow (Sunday) unless paying $100K. This is an out-of-the blue presidential action. We’ll see software engineers stranded abroad.

One easy to predict outcome: those on US visas will travel less… for work, for conferences etc.
